Liverpool host Wolves at Anfield on Sunday as the Reds look to get their season back on track.

The past week has seen Arne Slot’s men knocked out of the FA Cup after a shock defeat to Plymouth, while Wednesday night’s Merseyside Derby with Everton saw the Reds take a killer blow after James Tarkowski snatched away the three points with a 98th-minute equaliser.

Nevertheless, Liverpool head into Sunday’s match in a good position in the Premier League as the Merseyside club currently sit seven points ahead of Arsenal.

Many fans will be wary of what happened towards the back of Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield, therefore, a win against Wolves will be important for the Reds.

History is on Liverpool’s side when it comes to this fixture as Wolves have not had much joy at Anfield over the last 15 years.

Wolves’ 15-year struggle away to Liverpool

Speaking to the press on Friday, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira admitted he would attack Liverpool on Sunday as he doesn’t plan to defend for 90 minutes.

The historical facts of the fixture do not fall in the Portuguese coach’s favour as Wolves have lost nine out of their last 10 trips to Anfield with a 1-0 win in 2010 being the only exception.

In addition to this, the Reds have won 15 out of their last 16 Premier League matches with Wolves with the 3-0 loss at Molineux in 2023 being the only game the Merseyside club have failed to pick up three points in.

The Midlands club will arrive at Anfield with only Leicester City (32) conceding more away goals this season than the Molineux outfit with 28, which is not good when the likes of Mohamed Salah are about.

There are facts that Wolves can be positive about. Having lost their last two Premier League away games, the Midlands club have not seen defeat in three in a row in a single season since December 2023.

Liverpool have conceded in their last four Premier League home matches, conceding six goals across these games, which will give Pereira’s attacking plan a boost.

Slot praised Wolves’ Matheus Cunha on Friday and the Brazilian could be a factor on Sunday as the Brazilian has scored 16 of his 25 Premier League goals in away games (64%).

Liverpool could also be without some key stars on Sunday, which will help Wolves a little in trying to get a result at Anfield.

Liverpool continue to deal with Everton fallout

Following the Merseyside Derby with Everton Liverpool will be without Curtis Jones for their clash with Wolves on Sunday.

The midfielder was sent off after the full-time whistle at Goodison Park as Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure got involved in a scuffle.

Slot revealed on Friday that Liverpool could be without Cody Gakpo this weekend following a knock the Dutch star picked up against Everton.

In addition to this, Joe Gomez is not available for Liverpool, alongside Tyler Morton, as both are long-term issues the Merseyside club are dealing with.

The Reds still enter the Wolves game on Sunday in good shape and are more than capable of bringing back the momentum to their season.
