The 2024/25 campaign has arguably been the best of Mohamed Salah’s career.

The Egyptian superstar has been sensational since joining Liverpool in 2017 from Roma, however, the current season stands out from the rest due to the 32-year-old’s age and the situation with his contract rumbling on in the background.

Salah broke another record against Everton on Wednesday night as the Egyptian’s cross for Alexis Mac Allister to equalise at Goodison Park was his ninth assist away from home in 13 Premier League matches this season.

Adding to his 13 goals on the road, that brought the winger’s total to 22 goal involvements away from home, surpassing Andy Cole’s previous record of 21 set in 1993/94.

Salah would then extend the record to 23 in the second half as the 32-year-old scored what many thought would be the winner at the time.

The Egypt captain’s form has surprised many this season and Alan Shearer has now admitted that he got it wrong relating to a prediction he made about the Liverpool star earlier in the campaign.

Alan Shearer admits to getting Mohamed Salah prediction wrong

Salah has been in remarkable form this season throughout the 35 games he has featured in for Liverpool, producing 27 goals and 19 assists.

Luis Garcia believes Salah is a contender for the Ballon d’Or this season and if the winger continues his current run of form until the end of the season, the 32-year-old has a very strong chance of lifting the biggest individual prize in football.

With the superstar out of contract with Liverpool at the end of the season, Shearer felt that would have an impact on the Egyptian star and that there would be a drop-off as a result.

Shearer has praised Salah many times throughout the season, however, the Match of Day pundit has admitted to getting his prediction wrong on the latest episode of The Rest is Football.

“I said earlier in the season, didn’t I, that there would be a tiny drop-off because of his contract situation, the worry that you haven’t got the protection or the guarantee of that behind you going forward,” Shearer said.

“At the minute, there hasn’t been at all. I thought it would have only been human nature to see a tiny, tiny drop-off but there isn’t. That tells about his mindset and how tough he is mentally.”

Salah’s contract situation has still not been corrected and at present, the 32-year-old is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Talks continue behind the scenes at Anfield to try and come to an agreement, but Robbie Fowler has a theory around the situation that seems plausible.

Robbie Fowler thinks Liverpool and Mohamed Salah may have agreed a new contract

Salah is one of three major Liverpool stars with deals expiring this summer as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in negotiations with the Merseyside club.

Fowler has theory that Liverpool have agreed new deals with two of the three stars, however, the Premier League leaders are waiting for the third to get over the line before making an announcement.

This would likely be Salah and Van Dijk as Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked to Real Madrid in recent months and many expected the full-back to make the move to Spain this summer.

A concrete update on Salah’s contract will come over the coming weeks, however, the longer it goes on, the more likely the Egyptian superstar is to depart Anfield at the end of the season.
