Wolves are the next challenge facing Liverpool on their path to the Premier League title.

Vitor Pereira’s side have experienced a tough season towards the bottom of the Premier League as the Midlands club continues to try and avoid relegation to the Championship.

Wolves come into their clash with Liverpool with confidence having won their last two matches 2-0, with one of them being an impressive win over Aston Villa.

Sunday’s match at Anfield is also an important one for Liverpool as the Reds have failed to win their last two games and dropping points against Wolves could seriously halt their momentum.

Arne Slot’s men will face a tough challenge at the weekend as Pereira has unveiled an ambitious plan to get a result against the Premier League leaders.

Wolves plan to attack Liverpool at Anfield

The default setting for most teams that arrive at Anfield to play Liverpool is to sit back and hope to punish the Reds on the counter-attack.

Although this seems like the logical option, it rarely works, as the Merseyside club have an excellent home record this season with only Nottingham Forest succeeding with their defensive game plan.

Speaking to the press on Friday afternoon, Pereira stated that he doesn’t plan on defending for 90 minutes against Liverpool and will have a go at the Reds to try and get a result.

“I’m not thinking about defending for 90 minutes and taking a point. I’m thinking of playing our way, with our qualities, to get the best possible result,” the Wolves manager said.

Managing Liverpool is a dream Pereira has publicly admitted in the past and a result at Anfield would be huge for the Wolves coach and his team.

Liverpool could be without Cody Gakpo on Sunday, which would make the Portuguese coach’ life easier, while Johnny Heitinga may also be set to manage the Reds on the day; however, the 56-year-old remains aware of the threat the Premier League leaders pose.

Liverpool ‘one of the best’ admits Wolves boss Vitor Pereira

Wolves fell to a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture against Liverpool in September but the Midlands club made life difficult for the Reds.

Pereira knows he has the quality in his team to do this again and has admitted that he will not focus on Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s clash, but has also acknowledged that Slot’s team are one of the best in the league.

“My focus is on my team. We must go there with our qualities. We will face a strong team in a fantastic environment,” the Portuguese coach told the media.

“I respect every team and Liverpool is one of the best in this league, but I must look at my players. For me, they are the best players in the country because they are my players.”

Only time will tell how Pereira’s plan will play out at Anfield as things do not often go to plan for opposition teams at the home of Liverpool.
