Liverpool’s win over Man City was a huge moment in the Reds’ season.

The Merseyside club capitalised on Arsenal dropping points on Saturday to increase the gap at the top of the Premier League to 11 points.

Arne Slot’s men put in a very controlled performance, reducing Man City to very little chances, leaving Alan Shearer to describe Liverpool as “outstanding”.

Slot was a key figure in Liverpool’s win as the Dutch coach approached the clash at the Etihad perfectly, but it demanded his team to run their socks off.

With 89 minutes on the clock, several players would have been on their last legs by then, but Slot was not happy with the effort of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Trent Alexander-Arnold angered Arne Slot during Man City clash

Alexander-Arnold has been incredible for Liverpool this season and the full-back has been a key element in why the Reds have been so successful.

However, there have been moments during the campaign where the defender has struggled, with Alexander-Arnold’s Man United performance at Anfield standing out.

The 26-year-old had a tough time up against Jeremy Doku on Sunday but ultimately the Man City winger did nothing to threaten the Liverpool goal.

With 89 minutes on the clock, Alexander-Arnold would have clearly been tired but that did not stop the Liverpool star from getting a rollicking from Slot for jogging and not sprinting back into position, reports the Daily Mail.

The full-back was later substituted two minutes into added time for Jarell Quansah, but it is uncertain if this was a result of his tiredness or actions.

Many Liverpool fans will question Alexander-Arnold’s effort due to his contract situation but that doesn’t seem to be the case in this scenario.

The latest on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation

It has been well-documented that Alexander-Arnold is out of contract with Liverpool at the end of the season and there has been no sign of a new deal being agreed in recent weeks.

Real Madrid are showing strong interest in Alexander-Arnold and many fans of the Reds expect the full-back to leave for Spain ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

That may well be the defender’s plan, however, Alexander-Arnold showed against Aston Villa how committed he is to Liverpool’s cause and the 26-year-old will continue to do so for the remainder of the season.

Slot’s anger with Alexander-Arnold against Man City was an incident seen many times in the sport, but there is no doubt that the Dutch coach will have full trust in the right-back for the Newcastle match.
