Trent Alexander-Arnold is in the final few months of his Liverpool contract, with all signs pointing towards the defender joining Real Madrid.

The England international is expected to depart Anfield having spent his entire career with the Reds, with Madrid strongly positioned to sign Alexander-Arnold having held talks with the 26-year-old right-back over a move this year.

Although Liverpool knocked back an offer from Madrid for Alexander-Arnold in January, the Premier League superstar looks all-but certain to leave the Merseyside giants in 2025 as a club legend having won everything there is to win.

Yet despite not leaving this window, Madrid’s intentions on signing Alexander-Arnold have been made clear after a new update from Spain ahead of the transfer deadline later tonight.

Alexander-Arnold the only player Real Madrid approach this January

According to Manu Carreno speaking to Cadena SER, Alexander-Arnold is the only player Los Blancos made an approach for in the January transfer window, with Madrid also linked with Ibrahima Konate to help fix their centre-back crisis.

With Alexander-Arnold set to join Madrid as a free-agent in the summer, the La Liga giant’s intention to land the defender this January shows just how interested the reigning European champions are on signing the right-back, with an agreement likely to be reached before the end of the season.

Carreno said: “What we can say is that Madrid did not lie when we asked them. Madrid have not looked for any centre-back in the market, they have not had any contact with any centre-back.

“The only attempt they have wanted to make to sign has been Alexander-Arnold , and paying little because they prefer to try to get him to come on a free in June.”

Who else could Liverpool in the summer alongside Alexander-Arnold?

Alexander-Arnold is one of three Liverpool superstars who could leave for nothing at the end of this season, with Mohamed Salah wanted by Saudi Arabian clubs as Virgil van Dijk continues to stall on signing a new deal.

Yet the trio aren’t the only players who could leave Anfield in the summer, with Darwin Nunez also linked with an exit from Liverpool as Luis Diaz continues to be rumoured with a move to FC Barcelona, a transfer that could well happen in the off-season.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold’s departure will be massive for Liverpool, and Arne Slot knows he has a big mission on his hands in trying to replace the defender, who for the past eight years has been one of the biggest influences in the squad.
