Liverpool are still in contention to win a treble this season.

The Reds are currently top of the Premier League, in the Carabao Cup final and will face PSG in the Champions League’s Round of 16.

This goes beyond what was expected from the Reds at the start of the campaign following the departure of Jurgen Klopp, however, the Merseyside club still need to cross the line in all of these competitions.

Talk of a Liverpool quadruple began just before the Reds were eliminated from the FA Cup last month, which shows how quickly things could be snatched away from Arne Slot’s men.

The Dutch coach opted to play a weakened team against Plymouth in the tournament, which backfired as the Championship side would win the clash 1-0.

Slot’s decisions on that day brought criticsim his way, however, it is a decision the Liverpool boss does not regret.

Arne Slot doesn’t regret controversial Liverpool decision

Slot has often spoken about how he never wants to lose a match but has on occasions, been ok with defeat, such as the first leg of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup semi-final with Tottenham.

The Dutch coach would not have wanted to have exited the FA Cup early last month but having done so, the Reds head coach is now seeing the benefits.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Slot admitted that Liverpool’s FA Cup exit has aided their chances of success in the remaining three competitions.

“The players have shown this season many times they can cope with many games but it was the reason I changed the line-up against Plymouth so drastically because I don’t think you can do this for a whole season,” Slot stated.

“That hurt us in the FA Cup, but it also means these players are now able to play five games in a row at the highest possible level.”

These comments alone may draw some controversy Slot’s way, but Steve Nicol agreed with the Liverpool coach’s decision at Plymouth, as the Premier League is the most important trophy for the Reds this season.

Several stars at the Merseyside club have played a lot of minutes and as a result of their FA Cup exit, there is a nice break on the horizon for the Premier League leaders.

Liverpool star’s have run their socks off this season

Andy Robertson was worried about Liverpool’s fitness ahead of their clash with Man City on Sunday and it is not hard to see why.

Several players have played over 2500 minutes this season as Slot has not been the best at rotating, which could have an effect further down the line.

Liverpool showed no signs of fatigue against Man City as Slot’s men looked highly motivated following Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham.

Although it would have hurt at the time, Liverpool’s FA Cup exit might be a blessing in disguise as it could be fuelling the Reds’ push to a second Premier League title in the last five years.
