Liverpool travel to Man City on Sunday with the Reds looking to regain some momentum in the Premier League title race.

Arne Slot’s side played out a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday but could have won the contest had Darwin Nunez converted Liverpool’s best chance.

This followed Liverpool’s struggles against Wolves, their heartbreak at the end of the Merseyside derby and exiting the FA Cup at the hands of Plymouth.

Fans of the Reds have started to become concerned that their team is starting to get tired as Slot only uses around 14 or 15 Liverpool players regularly as spotted by Jamie Carragher.

A trip to Man City is the last thing the Merseyside club needed as the Etihad Stadium has not been a happy hunting ground in the past.

However, a win could be a big boost to Liverpool’s season and Slot’s squad may need it as Andy Robertson suggests that they are starting to get tired.

Andy Robertson hints at tiredness within Liverpool squad

Andy Robertson has been rotated a lot by Slot this season but the Scottish star has started Liverpool’s last five games as the fixtures start to grow in importance.

Others such as Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Graveneberch and Alexis Mac Allister have all played over 2500 minutes this season and it has been evident in recent performances from the Reds that the midfield is starting to show signs of fatigue.

Robertson has hinted at this ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Man City on Sunday stating that schedule has been tough and mentions the little break on the horizon.

“It’s going to be difficult,” Robertson told Liverpool.com ahead of the trip to Man City. “We need to recover, rest as much as we can because the schedule has been tough – but we’ll be ready to go on Sunday.

“The whole squad has to be ready, the manager keeps on saying that, the lads on the bench have to be ready to make an impact.

“Once we get through the next two games then we’ve got a little break where we’ve not got a game at the weekend.

“We just need to keep pushing through that and if we do then let’s see where we’re at after that.”

Despite Man City’s struggles this season, Liverpool will still have to perform at a high level, and the Reds’ Aston Villa showing was not a concern for Robertson.

Liverpool would have come away from Villa Park on Wednesday feeling that they should have won the contest, especially with the chances Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota had.

Robertson does not seem too down about the result and believes that the point against Aston Villa may be important come the end of the season.

“That’s, I suppose, the beauty of football – you never know how important certain results are until the end of the season.

“But we definitely had chances to get our noses back in front – when it was one each in the first half, when we go to two each we had the big chance. But look, it’s part and parcel of football and these lads will be in front of goal again and they’ll hopefully take their chances.

“We don’t know if it’s a point gained, two points dropped, whatever it will be, but we have to just keep pushing.

“I think the performance levels from everyone was good enough. We fought really hard and we have to take the point and now we have to move on because the schedule is tough on us just now.”
