The Saudi Pro League clubs have been big players in the transfer market since 2023.
Al-Nassr’s transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United changed everything for clubs in the Middle Eastern nation as superstars such as Neymar, Karim Benzema and Riyadh Mahrez would follow the Portuguese international to the Saudi Pro League.
Liverpool would also see several of their players make the switch, Fabinho joined Al-Ittihad during the 2023 summer transfer window and would soon be followed by a Reds fan favourite as supporters would witness Roberto Firmino leave Anfield for Al-Ahli.
Jordan Henderson spent a short time in Saudi Arabia before moving to Ajax after leaving Liverpool as that summer proved essential to the Merseyside club being in the position they are now under Arne Slot.
Ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window, Saudi Pro League clubs are expected to return to Anfield, with Fabrizio Romano explaining that they are obsessed with two Liverpool stars.

Saudi Pro League ready to move for Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez
Saudi Arabian clubs have shown a long-term interest in Mohamed Salah as they the Egyptian superstar is an icon in that part of the world.
That is unlikely to have slowed down as the 32-year-old is in the form of his life this season, producing 23 goals and 17 assists across 32 matches for the Reds, leaving Luis Garcia calling for Salah to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or.
Darwin Nunez has also been linked to the Saudi Pro League this month as the striker has had a very underwhelming season on Merseyside.
Speaking on his latest YouTube video, Fabrizio Romano has admitted that Saudi Arabia are obsesseed with the Liverpool duo and are likely to return for their signatures this summer.
“In terms of interests from Saudi, they have some obsessions, some players they would love to bring to the Saudi Pro League,” Romano stated.
“Vini is their dream target, but also remember the positions they have for Mohamed Salah and for Darwin Nunez. Liverpool were very clear this winter that they wanted to keep the player, but the interest is still there.”
Al-Hilal have shown strong interest in Salah in recent weeks as the Saudi champions look to replace Neymar in their squad and that should be a worry for Liverpool.
The Brazilian superstar is very close to returning to Santos for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign and beyond, however, Liverpool fans should not worry as the Merseyside club remain in control of the situation.
Liverpool hold Mohamed Salah’s future in their hands
Speaking to the press two weeks ago, Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus told the media that he is in the market for a new winger this summer and opened the door for Liverpool’s Salah to move to Al-Hilal ‘next season’.
The Saudi Pro League club is very likely the Egyptian’s next destination should he leave Anfield this summer but that is not somthing the winger wants to do at 32.
| Season | Goals | Assists |
| 2024/25 | 23 | 17 |
| 2023/24 | 25 | 14 |
| 2022/23 | 30 | 16 |
| 2021/22 | 31 | 15 |
| 2020/21 | 31 | 6 |
Salah is on top of the football world at present and will want to continue competing in the Premier League and Champions League next season.
Saudi Arabia will always be there for the Egypt international, therefore, Liverpool are in control of this situation and could end all the specualtion by agreeing new terms with their main superstar over the coming months.
