The future of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool remains in doubt amid interest in the right-back from Real Madrid.

The Reds defender is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and there has been no concrete update of the 26-year-old being close to agreeing a new deal.

Many expect the England international to leave the Merseyside club in 2025 and reports out of Spain are backing this up, with the popular outlet El Chringuito reporting that the Liverpool star will play for Real Madrid next season.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has left the door open for Alexander-Arnold to move to Spain in January, although Relevo report that the La Liga champions have given up trying to sign the full-back in January as they fully focus on acquiring the 26-year-old during the summer window.

Liverpool will still be hopeful of agreeing new terms with Alexander-Arnold but should the Reds fail, here are three players Arne Slot could replace the full-back with.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has often been linked with a move to Liverpool as the Dutch talent is one of the most exciting players in his position.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for Xabi Alonso’s team in Germany with the wing-back producing two goals and nine assists across 26 games this season, which follows the impressive 14 goals and 13 assists from the memorable 2023/24 campaign.

Frimpong can certainly match the attacking output of Alexander-Arnold but being a wing-back, it is uncertain how the Leverkusen star would do as the right-back in Slot’s team.

Joshua Kimmich

Joshua Kimmich is a player who needs no introduction to football fans as the Bayern Munich star has had an incredibly successful career in Germany, where he has added Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal medals to his collection.

The 29-year-old may be the perfect signing for Arne Slot this summer as the German international will be a free agent and can play in multiple roles.

Kimmich has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks and not only would he be able to fill in for Alexander-Arnold at right-back, but also add to the number six position that the Reds tried to address last summer with Martin Zubimendi.

The situation of the Bayern Munich star presents Liverpool with the perfect solution to losing Alexander-Arnold, however, it remains to be seen if the 29-year-old signs a new deal with the German giants.

Pedro Porro

A more ambitious target Liverpool could move for this summer to replace Alexander-Arnold is Tottenham’s Pedro Porro, who has also been linked to Real Madrid, as the 25-year-old will not need time to get used to the intensity of the Premier League.

The Spanish full-back is similar to Alexander-Arnold in ways as the Spurs star is a very attacking full-back but lacks the technical ability of the England star.

Porro has attributes that Slot could work with and in a more structured side such as Liverpool, that could bring out the best in the former Sporting CP defender.

Given Porro has a contract at Tottenham until 2028, the North London club will not part ways with him easily or cheaply.

The 25-year-old is a player Liverpool should keep in mind but the safer option for the Reds would be to put their faith in Conor Bradley after what the 21-year-old has already displayed at Anfield.
