Liverpool are looking set for a very busy year in the transfer market in 2025.
The Reds did virtually nothing in 2024, signing only an injury-affected Federico Chiesa and a loaned out Giorgi Mamardashvili across the year.
Supporters will be hoping for more next time around and given the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool may have little choice in the matter.
Should any or all of the key trio depart, then their respective places in the Liverpool squad will need re-addressing.
Given his unique skillset, Alexander-Arnold is going to be a nightmare for Liverpool to replace.
As the Reds weigh up their options in the market in preparation for Trent’s potential departure, Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen has been mentioned as possible addition. But according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Liverpool are hesitating on making the 24-year-old a concrete target.

Liverpool hesitating on Jeremie Frimpong
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Frimpong ever since the summer transfer window. If they do need to replace Alexander-Arnold, the Dutchman looks set to be in the picture.
However, reports from Germany on Tuesday suggested that Arne Slot does not want Frimpong due to a stylistic choice to play with a more orthodox right-back.
Addressing these suggestions while speaking to Rousing The Kop, though, Bailey says that if Liverpool choose not to go for Frimpong, it will have nothing to do with playing style.
“I don’t believe that Liverpool wouldn’t sign Frimpong because they want a more traditional full-back,” he says. “The thing with it is that they’re assessing more to do with do they want to sign someone to replace Trent, or does Bradley do that and they then go for a cheaper, younger player who can become even better than a Bradley. I think that’s the discussions they’re having. We still don’t know where we are with Trent, too.”
“He is one of the options if Trent leaves, but if they don’t sign him from my understanding it won’t be because they’ve looked at him and thought ‘he’s not right,'” Bailey adds.
“The make up of the squad is the main question. What type of player do they want in terms of age and value. Is it a younger player, is it a free agent? They haven’t made that decision yet.”
Jeremie Frimpong definitely on the market
Although it remains to be seen what decision Liverpool finally come to regarding Frimpong, Bailey says that the Netherlands international will certainly be up for sale.
“In Frimpong’s case he knows he’s moving next year, he knows he’s got the interest,” claims the transfer expert.
“City are very keen to take him back, Liverpool are keen, Real Madrid are in the mix as well. So, he will be leaving but we don’t know where to yet.”
With a reported release clause set at around £33m, Frimpong would surely have to be a first-choice player should he arrive at Anfield.
As they wait for Alexander-Arnold to make his own decision, Liverpool must soon make one on Frimpong or risk getting beaten to the punch by City or Madrid.
