Liverpool’s desire to sign an attacker has been well-documented in recent times.

Mohamed Salah’s contract situation has left the Reds planning for the future, with a whole of names being linked with an Anfield switch.

One forward Liverpool are targeting is Ademola Lookman, with the Reds reportedly having made contact with the Nigerian international prior to the January window.

The former Everton man has garnered attention from clubs across Europe following his impressive displays for Atalanta in Serie A and in the Champions League.

Lookman’s time in Italy however could soon be over following a spat with manager Gian Piero Gasperini – something Liverpool no doubt will be keeping tabs on.

Liverpool target Ademola Lookman hits back at ‘disrespectful’ Gian Piero Gasperini

Following disappointing stints at Fulham and Leicester, Lookman has since transformed into one of Europe’s best attackers while at Atalanta.

That however hasn’t stopped Bergamo boss Gasperini from criticising his star attacker calling him “one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen” after Lookman missed a crucial penalty during Atalanta’s 3-1 defeat against Club Brugge in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old has since hit back at his manager’s claims via social media, stating the comments were ‘deeply disrespectful’.

Liverpool could pounce on Atalanta unrest

With the likes of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz linked with moves away from Anfield this summer, Lookman could present himself as the perfect replacement for Arne Slot.

Liverpool’s failed interest in Omar Marmoush shows they are in the market for a quick forward with a versatile skillset, something the Nigerian international could bring to the Reds forward line.

Lookman’s pricetag was quoted at £25m prior to the January window, but that sum may drop even lower if the 27-year-old cannot rectify the issues with his manager.

£25m would no doubt be seen as a steal for a player of Lookman’s ability so it would be no surprise to see Liverpool make a move this summer.
