Liverpool are ‘100 per cent’ watching £52m forward as a potential Darwin Nunez replacement

Liverpool may need to make some big changes to their squad over the next two transfer windows.

The Reds barely did any business throughout 2024 and could instead be left with a long to-do list during 2025.

The biggest ‘what if’ in that regard is whether Liverpool will have to replace the star trio of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool have been told some ‘massively encouraging’ news about all three on Thursday, but there remains a chance that they have to dip heavily into the transfer market to find successors.

Another area which could potentially do with some attention is at centre-forward. Arne Slot has rotated between Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez so far this season, with Jota comfortably winning that battle.

And as Nunez’s career at Anfield struggles to hit its expected heights, the Reds are already keeping an eye on someone to take his spot in the Liverpool squad.

Liverpool watching Omar Marmoush

While there is still a chance that Nunez turns things around at Liverpool, it feels very much like make or break time for the Uruguayan.

Should he fail to force his way into Slot’s starting XI by the end of the campaign, you’d have to say that his time with the Reds is probably up.

Links to Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush have started to appear as a potential replacement and according to journalist David Lynch, Liverpool are definitely aware of the Egyptian’s talents.

“Marmoush, I’ve absolutely no doubt really that they are looking at him,” Lynch tells Anfield Agenda.

“His numbers look decent for the last couple of seasons and he’s at that age that Liverpool do like to scout, so would be an ideal signing in that regard. But in terms of profile at centre-forward they’re kind of alright there at the moment.

“So, it’s not necessarily definitely looking at him with a view to ‘we’re going to make a move for him next summer’. He’ll be on their radar 100 per cent, but it’s more with a view to okay, if something happens in this position, if we get to the end of the season and it’s not working out for Darwin and we think we can sell him and a spot opens up, he’s maybe someone who’s on the list. But there’s loads of players like that.

“I think that’s a link that makes sense in terms of profile but it’s not a position Liverpool are desperate in, but things can change,” adds the reporter.

“So much has got to happen for that to come off. It’s just a case of keeping an eye on his development and maybe he will be an option for Liverpool going forward.”

Omar Marmoush hesitating on new contract

Liverpool’s interest in Marmoush has so far been seen more as a way of succeeding his countryman, Salah.

However, given the 25-year-old’s profile, he would look more like a player who could play through the middle for the Reds.

As a result, perhaps there is a chance that Liverpool could have two Egyptians in their forward line next season.

Currently top scorer in the Bundesliga, there have been claims that Eintracht could look for as much as £52m to sell Marmoush.

In the meantime, it has also been reported that Marmoush is ‘hesitating’ on signing a new contract amid interest from Liverpool and other sides. This is certainly one to keep an eye on by the sounds of things.
