Despite a late scare, Liverpool got the job done against Wolves – coming away with a 2-1 win.
Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah got the Reds comfortably in front before half-time, but it wouldn’t turn out to be plain sailing for Arne Slot’s men.
Wolves ‘danger man’ Matheus Cunha would cast doubt into Liverpool minds with a beautifully curved effort midway through the second half.
Vítor Pereira’s side would then pin the Reds back in search of an equaliser, with Jarell Quansah’s ‘vital block saving Liverpool late on.
Despite the Reds escaping Anfield unscathed, their second-half performance will worry Slot, especially when he takes a look at the stats.

Liverpool’s worrying attacking stats against Wolves
Having entered half-time cruising at 2-0, many would have expected the Reds to kill the game off in the second half.
That of course wouldn’t be the case though, with Liverpool failing to lay a glove on Wolves after half-time, not even mustering a single shot on goal in the process.
With that being the first time in history the Reds have never managed a shot in a single half at Anfield.
A damming stat that the Liverpool coaching staff will look to rectify before the Aston Villa game on Wednesday evening.
Liverpool missed Cody Gakpo’s attacking output vs Wolves
Cody Gakpo was absent vs Wolves following an injury picked up in the Merseyside derby.
The Dutchman’s replacement on the day, Diaz, impressed Reds fans with his performance – scoring the opener and also winning a penalty, which Salah later dispatched.
Despite Diaz’s bright moments, Liverpool undoubtedly missed Gakpo on the left flank which was shown by their lack of shots in the second half.
| Cody Gakpo | Luis Diaz | Federico Chiesa | |
| Shots per 90 | 3.22 | 2.94 | 3.43 |
| Non-penalty xG | 0.44 | 0.43 | 0.20 |
Slot revealed Gakpo’s fitness is ‘under debate’ and it is unknown whether the attacker will be available for the trip to Villa Park.
So with that in mind, Diaz’s stats and recent performance suggest he may be best placed to fill the void of Gakpo, if he can’t return in time.
