Luis Diaz’s move to Liverpool during the January transfer window in 2022 has worked out for everyone involved.
The winger arrived on Merseyside from FC Porto mid-season and injected a big boost into Jurgen Klopp’s Reds squad as they aimed to win a historic treble. Diaz was lighting from the off and his style of play resulted 28-year-old quickly becoming a fan favourite.
Arne Slot has used Diaz as a striker this season in the regular absence of Diogo Jota, with the Dutch coach also seeing the value in the Colombia international.
The winger’s performances at Anfield have resulted in Barcelona making Diaz a long-term target with the Catalan club continuously linked to the Reds star over recent months.
Barca and Real Madrid will always be big attractions for South American players and Liverpool have been burned by this in the past – Luis Suarez and Phillippe Coutinho being prime examples.
Ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Ipswich Town on Saturday, Diaz has revealed his plan for the future as the Catalan club continues to linger in the background.

Luiz Diaz reveals mindset for the 2025/26 season
Diaz has featured 29 times for Liverpool this season, producing 12 goals and three assists so far whilst adjusting to his new role in the Reds starting 11.
The Colombian is on course to have his best season yet at Anfield and having failed to score in his last four matches, that does not seem to bother the 28-year-old.
Speaking ahead of the Ipswich clash in the official Liverpool matchday programme, Diaz has admitted that he is not only focused on helping his team win the Premier League this season but also beating his own personal targets.
“That’s always been my mindset, when the new season comes around, to try to look beyond what I’d achieved previously,” Diaz stated via the Liverpool Echo. “So, I’ll keep going and I already know that this year is going to be much better than the last one.
“I always focus on my own personal targets and always try to reach them, and so right now I feel great in myself, full of confidence, and pretty relaxed on that score.”
It remains to be seen if Darwin Nunez will start against Ipswich as a result of his recent form but either way, Diaz is very happy at Liverpool and with the atmosphere around the current squad.

Diaz has stated that the secret behind their success is that the squad is a big family and credits Slot for the impact he has made on Merseyside.
“The secret lies in the fact that we’ve created a great group, a big family, both on the pitch in games and in our training sessions,” the winger said.
“I think that the new coaching staff that came in have also been spot on with their work all this time and have played a massive role in this too. That has been fundamental.
“And as for us, I think that we’ve been carrying out what we work on and practice in training. It’s true that we’re in top spot in (the Premier League and Champions League), that is so important to us. It’s really key, to be honest, as it brings with it a huge boost in confidence, and we’ll keep working in the same way.”
Steve Nicol doubts Liverpool’s quadruple chances in 2025 as the feat is almost impossible and every Liverpool fan shares the pundits’s mindset as he wants the Premier League more than any other piece of silverware up for grabs throughout the rest of the campaign.
