Liverpool have three left-back options after Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez appears to rule out Anfield move

Liverpool will enter the 2025 summer transfer window with a left-back high on their agenda.

The left side of Arne Slot’s defence has proved to be a problem area this season with Jamie Carragher believing that a left-sided defender is needed at Anfield going forward.

Arsenal, Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Tottenham all have a player that can play as a left centre-back and at left-back, which would be a very useful option for Liverpool to have.

Ian Wright hates seeing the form Andy Robertson is currently in as the Scottish international is experiencing his toughest season on Merseyside since moving to Anfield in 2017.

Robertson was left out of Liverpool’s starting 11 against Brentford and Lille, which is not a good indication of his future with the Reds.

When it comes to replacements for the left-back, Milos Kerkez has been heavily linked to Liverpool in recent weeks, although the Bournemouth star has seemingly ruled out a move.

The Hungary international hosted a live stream on his official YouTube channel this week in which he responded to comments from viewers. When one subscriber urged him to leave Bournemouth for Liverpool, Kerkez replied: “I will not go to Liverpool. For everybody listening, I will not go to Liverpool.”

Therefore, following this admission from the Bournemouth talent, here a three potential alternatives to Kerkez as Liverpool look to sign a left-back in 2025.

Antonee Robinson

Antonee Robinson has been in top form for Fulham this season and is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League at present.

The US international has produced nine assists across 22 English top-flight games and has played a key role in the London club’s success.

Liverpool have shown interest in Robinson as a result, which has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, although the transfer expert has stated that the Merseyside club’s preference is to sign a younger player.

At 27, the Fulham star is nowhere near being over the hill, therefore, the attacking full-back could be a great option to replace Andy Robertson at Liverpool.

Alvaro Carreras

Benfica star Alvaro Carreras has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months and is everything the Reds are looking for in a left-back.

The 21-year-old is young enough to develop further, is very good going forward and is decent on the defensive side of the ball. The defender is still a bit raw but that will be ironed out by Arne Slot over time.

Carreras has a €50m (£42m) release clause in his current Benfica contract, which may be a bit expensive in the eyes of the Liverpool board.

The Merseyside club will face tough competition for the Spaniard during the summer as Carreras is starting to attract some big interest from across Europe from the likes of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Man United.

Federico Dimarco

Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco is one of the best full-backs in world football and a move for the Italian star would be a very ambitious one from Liverpool as he is unlikely to leave the San Siro.

However, the 27-year-old has an expiring contract with Inter in 2027, which could be an opportunity the Reds take advantage of if the player is open to a new challenge in 2025.

Dimarco has made 26 appearances for the Nerazzurri this season, producing three goals and seven assists and is a key member of Simone Inzaghi’s squad.

The full-back is lethal going forward and has a left foot that can pick out any run from a forward in the box.

The defender is also solid on the other side of the football, which would make the Italy star a very good option to replace Robertson at Anfield, although his age may be a factor for the Premier League leaders.
