Liverpool are in the market for a new long-term left-back, with Benfica defender Alvaro Carreras emerging as an option for the Reds.
Carreras has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent days with the former Manchester United fullback attracting some big-name suitors after an impressive year with Benfica, with the 21-year-old moving to Portugal on a permanent basis in the summer.
Noted by Breaking The Lines as a ‘brilliant’ defender when it comes to making space for his teammates, Carreras has all the makings of becoming the next great left-back in European football, with Liverpool interested in signing the youngster.
And Liverpool now know how much they need to pay if they want to sign Carreras in 2025.

Liverpool target Carreras has a release clause worth £42m
According to O Jogo, Carreras’ release clause in his current Benfica contract stands at €50m (£42m), with Liverpool showing ‘strong’ interest in signing the defender as a potential long-term replacement for the likes of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.
As per the report, Liverpool are not the only club keeping tabs on Carreras, with FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and even former club United all interested in the Spanish youth international, who could be on the move in 2025.
Indeed, Carreras has made a big impact at Benfica since joining at the start of the year, with the defender looking like the next major sale from the Portuguese giants after selling Joao Neves to PSG this summer for £60m.
And for Liverpool, Carreras could be an ideal signing in their mission to find a replacement for Robertson, with £42m a good fee for the left-back if the Reds can negotiate a price with Benfica for the former United wonderkid.

Liverpool need to ensure they win the race for Carreras
All signs seem to suggest that Carreras will become one of the most in-demands youngsters in 2025, with the fullback attracting some major interest just two months into the new season.
And for Liverpool, the Reds need to ensure that they are the club that win the race for Carreras, who could be open to a return to the Premier League even after spending four years in United’s academy.
Finding a replacement for Robertson is key for Liverpool if they’re to continue evolving under Arne Slot, and Carreras could tick all the boxes needed for the Anfield side to succeed one of the best players in recent memory.
