Liverpool have made an incredible start to the 2024/25 campaign but that has not been the case for every player in Arne Slot’s squad.
The Reds currently sit top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables, while remaining in both domestic cup competitions.
The main man helping the Merseyside club to achieve this has been Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has been on fire throughout the campaign, producing 22 goals and 17 assists across 31 matches in all competitions.
The winger is not the only one at the top of his game. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have been outstanding under Slot’s leadership, while Ryan Gravenberch has been labelled an ‘artist’ for his Liverpool form this term.
In contrast to that, others in the Liverpool squad have struggled despite the overall success of the team. Darwin Nunez has been linked to Saudi Arabia as a result of his failings this season, while Slot does not fully trust Jarell Quansah.
There are others and one of them has received the support of Man United legend Denis Irwin, who still thinks a Liverpool star is one of the best in the Premier League.

Denis Irwin backs ‘clever’ Andy Robertson to get things right at Liverpool
Since arriving from Hull City in 2017, Andy Robertson has been a staple in the Liverpool starting 11 and became known for consistently performing every week.
The Scottish star was electric down the Reds’ left side under Jurgen Klopp, however, Slot has not seen the best out of the full-back this season.
The 30-year-old has struggled throughout the 2024/25 campaign with Slot leaving Robertson on the Liverpool bench for their clashes with Brentford and Lille.
Despite this form, Man United legend Denis Irwin has shown support for Robertson on the latest episode of Stick to Football, with the Irishman describing the left-back as a “throwback” player.
“Robertson is really clever. I mean he has been there a long, long time and he knows the game,” Irwin said when speaking about the best full-backs in the English top flight. “He is a bit of a throwback as well, but he can still play good football.”
Irwin is one of the best full-backs to ever grace the Premier League, therefore, this may provide the Liverpool star with some encouragement.
Robertson’s struggles have seen Liverpool linked to several left-backs in recent weeks and it is a position the Merseyside club are likely to address this summer.
Potential Andy Robertson replacements at Liverpool
Kostas Tsimikas is not viewed by Liverpool as the long-term successor to Robertson at Anfield, with the Greek star’s fitness issues and consistency being a concern for everyone on Merseyside.
Liverpool-linked Alphonso Davies is close to staying at Bayern Munich, which leaves the Reds with an obvious option to pursue this summer.
Liverpool have shown interest in Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez with the links to Anfield being described as real. The Hungarian has been in top form for the Cherries this season and being just 21, the Merseyside outfit could get years out of the full-back.
Should Liverpool pursue the defender this summer, the Premier League leaders have a good chance of being successful as Dominik Szoboszlai is very close to Kerkez.
It remains to be seen if the Merseyside club make an official bid as everyone at Anfield hopes Robertson can turn his current form around.
