Liverpool are in the market for a new left-back and a new arrival is very likely in 2025.
Andy Robertson has been an immovable object in the role ever since joining the Reds from Hull City in 2017, developing into one of the best players to ever play the position at Anfield.
The Scotland star was electric down the left side of Jurgen Klopp’s team, however, Arne Slot has not seen the best of the 30-year-old as the full-back has struggled this season, resulting in the likes of Jamie Carragher calling for Liverpool to sign a left-back in 2025.
According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Liverpool plan on addressing the position this summer, as the Merseyside club do not view Kostas Tsimikas as the Scottish defender’s long-term successor.
Robertson was dropped for Liverpool’s match with Brentford on Saturday, which is a big indication that his time at Anfield is coming to an end.
Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months as a potential Robertson replacement and the Canadian star has now made a major decision on his future amid the interest from the Reds.

Liverpool target Alphonso Davies set to sign new Bayern Munich contract
Davies is out of contract at Bayern Munich at the end of the season and his situation has gauged the interest of several clubs in addition to Liverpool, such as Man United and Real Madrid.
The left-back has been a crucial part of Vincent Kompany’s plan this season in Germany with the 24-year-old featuring 24 times in all competitions, providing one goal and three assists.
Given his importance, the Bundesliga leaders are hopeful of tying Davies down long-term and according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, a new contract between the pair is very close.
Davies is set to extend his contract at the Allianz Arena until 2030 and will earn around €15m a year, in addition to a signing-on fee and bonuses down the line.
This is a huge boost for everyone at Bayern Munich and it takes the 24-year-old off of Liverpool’s transfer list.
The Reds will now need to assess their options ahead of the summer as they have plenty of other top players that could replace Robertson next season.

Liverpool have several other options for left-back role
In an ideal world, Liverpool would love Robertson to rediscover his old self as it would allow the Reds to sign a younger player for cover while giving him time to develop.
As that is unlikely, Liverpool have shown interest in Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and could make a move for the Hungarian star during the summer as Cherries are not going to sell in January as they dream of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Antonee Robinson has also been linked with Liverpool as the left-back continues to shine in the Premier League this season.
Robinson has a fan in Jamie Carragher, however, being 27 years old may turn Liverpool off the player when the time comes to make a decision.
The left-back situation at Anfield is an interesting one and fans of the Reds will be excited with the names being linked. Time will tell who the Premier League leaders eventually go for but for now, the focus will be bringing trophies back to Merseyside over the coming months.
