Whether Joe Gomez and Caoimhin Kelleher were in Liverpool training on deadline day

Liverpool look set to be relatively busy in the final hours of the transfer window as they push to seal a number of outgoings.

The Reds’ incoming business does appear to be finished, with the signing of Federico Chiesa on Thursday the only immediate signing made by Liverpool this summer.

While that will no doubt disappoint fans, there could reportedly be some big exits to come, too. Nottingham Forest are pushing to sign Caoimhin Kelleher before the 11pm deadline.

Joe Gomez has been linked with Newcastle as well and there were claims on Friday morning that Gomez could leave on deadline day.

With the Liverpool squad in action at the AXA Training Centre on Friday, it has now been revealed whether either player took part in the session.

Did Joe Gomez and Caoimhin Kelleher train?

Arne Slot already gave some clues as to what would be happening in Liverpool training during his press conference on Friday.

Slot confirmed that Federico Chiesa would be involved before also ruling Curtis Jones out of training with an injury.

Following that, Liverpool released some footage of the players meeting up before Friday’s session, with Trent Alexander-Arnold meeting Chiesa for the first time.

In the meantime, rumours that Liverpool could soon make a relatively big sale have rumbled on.

The main story appears to be Kelleher. Nottingham Forest are said to be readying an offer for the goalkeeper which would reportedly come close to meeting Liverpool’s valuation.

Despite that, The Athletic have shared that as well as Chiesa, Alexander-Arnold and the rest, Kelleher and Gomez were both involved as in Friday’s pre-Manchester United training.

Amid what is described as ‘speculation’ over the futures of the two players, they were both said to be out there on the pitches at Kirkby.

Will either player leave on deadline day?

The fact that both Gomez and Kelleher were in training ahead of facing Man United is a sure fire sign that they are going nowhere.

With such little time left to wrap up a deal – and the ever present risk of injury even during training – it seems almost impossible that either could leave now.

Of course, if a big bid comes in from somewhere, then that really gives Liverpool a decision to make.

But, for now, we would make it a real surprise if Kelleher – and especially Gomez – were to leave.

Beyond Friday’s deadline, we would assume that the pair will continue to have question marks over how long they will remain at Liverpool. For the moment, though, it’s almost time for the speculation to end.
