Two clubs now ‘pushing very hard’ to sign Liverpool player before tonight’s deadline

Liverpool don’t look set to do any further incoming business before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The Reds have had a disappointing window on the whole, only bringing in two new players, one of which won’t arrive until next season.

Nevertheless, what Liverpool have managed to do well is keep most of the first-team squad together.

The Reds have also been adept at identifying players who are not in Arne Slot’s plans and moving them on for good sized fees.

As the deadline draws ever nearer, Liverpool still have one or two loose ends to tie up in that regard.

Two clubs pushing for Ben Doak

Liverpool have made more than £60m through sales this summer. Add in things like the sell-on clause for Dominic Solanke’s move to Tottenham and that rises to over £70m.

Meanwhile, the Reds’ two deals to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa will set them back something in the region of £42m.

That is a healthy profit for Liverpool, which could still be boosted further.

Nottingham Forest are pushing to sign Caoimhin Kelleher and if that move goes through then the Reds will bank another £20-25m.

As well as the potential sale of Kelleher, Liverpool look likely to complete a couple of loan moves on Friday. And according to The Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele, one of the players leaving is likely to be Ben Doak.

“It’s all go in terms of Liverpool outgoings today,” says Steele. “We’re told that Hull City are pushing very hard to sign young Scottish winger Ben Doak on loan but face firm competition from fellow Championship club Middlesbrough.

“Fellow young winger Kaide Gordon, who has had a tough couple of years with injury, is attracting mass interest for a loan from second-tier teams,” adds the journalist.

Where should Ben Doak go?

Liverpool had a good experience of loaning players to Hull last season, with both Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho doing well on Humberside.

The Tigers have since changed manager, though, with the highly rated Liam Rosenior being replaced by German coach Tim Walter.

After missing out on the play-offs last season Hull have started the new campaign in mixed fashion, drawing all three games so far.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough are coached by former Man United and England midfielder Michael Carrick. Boro, like Hull, should be in and around the play-off mix this season, and currently have four points from three games.

If Doak is assured game time at either club, they would both feel like decent fits. Let’s see who ultimately wins the race.
