What Trent Alexander-Arnold said after meeting Federico Chiesa for the first time before Liverpool training

Liverpool’s incoming summer business looks set to have been wrapped up before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The Reds have had a sluggish summer having been keen to keep things steady following Jurgen Klopp’s exit.

There had been hope that Liverpool might add a defensive midfielder and a centre-back before the window shut, with reports that the Reds held talks with Porto’s Alan Varela.

However, after those conversations came to nothing, it now seems unlikely that any more players will be added to the Liverpool squad.

No matter, Reds supporters still have plenty to be pleased about. And after signing on Thursday, new signing Federico Chiesa has already been spotted at the AXA Training Centre on Friday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold welcomes Federico Chiesa

Chiesa looks like a really good signing for Liverpool. Despite some reservations over his injury history, the Italian will add plenty to Arne Slot’s forward line.

With Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz already installed as Slot’s options on the left of the attack, it seems probable that Chiesa has been earmarked mainly for a spot on the right.

If that bears out, then the 26-year-old is going to have to get awfully familiar with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

And in a video released by Liverpool’s official X account on Friday morning, the pair already seem to be getting acquainted.

The clip follows Liverpool’s players arriving for training ahead of the big weekend clash with Manchester United.

The man of the moment is of course Chiesa, who is spotted embracing captain Virgil van Dijk in the canteen.

After also greeting Tyler Morton on his way down the stairs, Chiesa then runs into Alexander-Arnold. The pair share a hug and some brief words, before Trent jogs his way up the rest of the steps.

“New boy on the block!” says Trent as he grins to the camera.

Will Federico Chiesa play against Man United?

It is fantastic to see Chiesa already in action so soon after arriving. The Italy international really did seem desperate to get started after joining on Thursday.

He may have to just temper that excitement ever so slightly this weekend, however.

Despite Chiesa asserting that he’s ready to go as soon as possible, Slot offered a different view during his press conference on Friday.

“He’s going to train with us today, but there’s a bigger chance that he’s not in the squad for Sunday then he is,” said the boss.

No matter, we look forward to seeing some more shots of Chiesa in action later on Friday and over the weekend. His time will soon come.
