Liverpool have done minimal business so far in the transfer window, bringing in just two new players.

The Reds have had a summer of upheaval off the pitch, with Jurgen Klopp being replaced by Arne Slot.

With the Liverpool coaching staff also having a big turnover, as well as plenty of changes at boardroom and recruitment level, there has been a transitionary feeling around Anfield.

That has extended to the transfer window, where Liverpool have felt largely focused on keeping the first-team squad together, rather than adding much to it.

And with deadline day now arriving, it seems that the Reds’ are having to dig their heels in over one player in particular.

Liverpool fending off Caoimhin Kelleher interest

Liverpool have had a relatively serene window in terms of keeping their biggest players at the club.

Although there is obvious concern over the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, no serious interest has come in any of them this summer.

Others, such as Alisson Becker and Darwin Nunez, have had various rumours about their future’s sprinkled throughout the summer, but with no great cause for alarm.

One player who had been expected to leave Anfield before the season had been Caoimhin Kelleher.

Chris Sutton labelled Kelleher ‘phenomenal‘ after a superb season and the Irishman looked set to step up and leave to become a starting goalkeeper. So far, that has yet to happen.

However, Rousing The Kop understands that Liverpool have been forced to fend off a number of efforts from Nottingham Forest to sign Kelleher ahead of deadline day.

Forest have made several bids to bring the 25-year-old to the City Ground, but we understand that none have matched Liverpool’s valuation.

Furthermore, sources at Anfield insist that Forest’s attempts have been nowhere near acceptable and that Kelleher is not for sale.

Despite Liverpool’s strong stance, we understand that Nuno Espirito Santo has not given up on buying the goalkeeper and could yet make a new offer.

Are Liverpool expected to do any business

Away from any potential outgoings, Liverpool supporters will be hoping to see their club do some incoming business on deadline day.

There were whisperings that the Reds are in talks to sign Alan Varela from Porto, but that has since been refuted.

And as the clock ticks down on the window, Rousing The Kop understands that Liverpool sources are expecting a quiet day in regards to any new signings.

One or two loan moves are set to be arranged for fringe players, but it’s understood that there is no big move in the pipeline for the time being.
