‘Special’ player could end up leaving Liverpool if Federico Chiesa is signed this week

Liverpool are continuing work to strengthen their squad ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

The Reds insistence on remaining patient and looking for opportunistic signings this summer has led to them scrambling to add players late in the day.

After a long three months without activity, Liverpool finally made a new addition on Tuesday; Giorgi Mamardashvili has arrived from Valencia but will spend the season on-loan with the Spanish side.

Beyond Mamardashvili, there is still the need to add a couple more players for Arne Slot to work with in the here and now.

To that end, Liverpool are working on the signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus. But it turns out that Chiesa’s arrival could actually mean that it’s one in, one out and Anfield.

Ben Doak could still leave Liverpool

Liverpool are expected to be busy between now and deadline day. But it isn’t just in terms of incomings that we’re likely to see plenty of action.

While they’ve been sluggish by way of bringing players in, the Reds have actually been impressive at selling so far this summer.

Transfers for Sepp van den Berg, Fabio Carvalho and Bobby Clark have brought in over £60m for Liverpool. And they’re unlikely to be the only ones leaving.

Tyler Morton is in talks with Bayer Leverkusen and it also looks very likely that Stefan Bajcetic is about to join RB Salzburg on-loan.

Fans may be nervous about seeing such talents from the academy leave, but according to The Daily Mail, they may also have to stomach the loss of forward Ben Doak.

It’s claimed that Doak could be one of three young players to leave Anfield in the last days of the window, along with Morton and Bajcetic.

The 18-year-old’s exit could reportedly be ‘triggered’ by the arrival of Chiesa, should that all go through.

Southampton and Leicester are both named as being interested in Doak, although it is not specified whether this is on-loan, or for a permanent transfer.

Is Ben Doak move the right one for Liverpool?

It is obvious by now that Slot has made a decision on which young players he will use this season and which are free to leave.

While it’s clear that someone like Trey Nyoni has obviously impressed Slot, others have surprisingly been shown the door.

Doak is one who perhaps falls into the latter category. The Scottish youngster may have expected to play a part this term.

There is clearly some benefit to keeping him around. Doak was called ‘special‘ by U21s coach Barry Lewtas and he is a young player who looks at home with the senior team.

However, with Chiesa arriving Liverpool will have so much firepower in attack. Doak needs game time to ensure his progress does not stall. If he can get that at a Leicester or a Southampton, then we don’t think it’s any bad thing.
