Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a deal to join in July 2025, so here is everything that you need to know about the new Reds star.

The Merseyside outfit confirmed the Reds had reached an agreement with Los Che subject to a work permit on August 27, 2024. But to get the switch over the line, Liverpool agreed to let Mamardashvili stay at Valencia for one final season and also not hinder his development.

Getting the chance to sign Mamardashvili from Valencia proved too enticing for Liverpool to pass on, despite the presence of Alisson Becker at Anfield. His performances at Euro 2024 in the Georgia net proved the perfect evidence to push through a deal and wait for his arrival.

Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for up to £29m in August 2024

Liverpool paid Valencia an initial fee of £25m to sign Mamardashvili, rising by a further £4m with add-ons. The Merseyside club also handed the Georgia international a six-year contract to finalise their deal for a player the Reds hope to see push Alisson and fight to be their No1.

Agreeing a move to the Premier League effective as of July 2025 also marked the latest step in his fledgling career. Mamardashvili only left his native Georgia after joining Valencia in an initial loan deal from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2021 that the La Liga team made permanent in 2022.

Mamardashvili became Valencia’s No1 immediately upon arriving at the Mestalla and made his debut against Getafe in August 2021. He also captained Los Che for the first time in April 2024 at Osasuna. Mamardashvili had his 100th game for Valencia in May 2024 at Celta Vigo.

HIs strong Euro 2024 as Georgia reached the Round of 16 thanks to a shock 2-0 win against Portugal in Group F was the cherry on the cake for Liverpool, who targeted Mamardashvili’s transfer upon his return to Valencia. His 21 saves were the joint-most in a group stage ever.

So, with that in mind, Rousing The Kop has taken a look at everything that you need to know about Mamardashvili and what sort of player Liverpool have signed from Valencia for £29m.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will have big gloves to fill at Liverpool should he replace Alisson Becker as the Reds’ No1. The Brazilian is widely seen to be one of if not the best goalkeepers in the world with Alisson’s reactions between the posts often vital to stopping the Reds conceding.

But Liverpool may have the perfect package set to arrive at Anfield in July 2025 as what the Georgia international showed at Euro 2024 showed Danny Murphy that Mamardashvili may have it all. The shot-stopper made a huge impression on a pundit unfamiliar with his talents.

“Big presence, good at the normal stuff – shot-stopping and all that – [and] decent with his feet,” Murphy told talkSPORT. “He’s six [foot] four, six five or something. I think that’s a great bit of business getting him in. He’s a super keeper.”

Former Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares even believes that the sky could be the limit for Mamardashvili, if the Georgian continues to develop like he has as a young shot-stopper.

“He’s a great goalkeeper – he’s a very high-level player,” he told SportItalia. “In addition to that, he’s very young. Goalkeepers improve year-on-year, so I couldn’t tell you what level he could reach.

“If he keeps improving at the current rate, it’s impossible to say how good he could get. He could be a very interesting target for any European club.”

Such was the admiration that the Georgian received for his performances at Euro 2024 that Manchester United even showed an interest in signing Mamardashvili before Liverpool and Valencia agreed to a transfer. The Mirror named the Red Devils as long-term fans of his, too.
