Liverpool have finally made their first signing of this summer’s transfer window.
The Reds left it until three days before the deadline passed, but they have announced the addition of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Of course, Mamardashvili will not arrive at Anfield until the end of the current season. That feels a long way off right now.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old looks like a really good signing for Liverpool. And although he did not even travel to the AXA Training Centre to be unveiled, Mamardashvili looked happy in a Liverpool training top on Tuesday.
More work needs to be done to the Liverpool squad between now and Friday’s deadline, however. And the Reds are seemingly stepping up their efforts to get another new player through the door.

Liverpool continue Federico Chiesa talks
It remains to be seen just how important the signing of Mamardashvili will eventually become for Liverpool.
But it cannot be ignored that in the here and now, it does absolutely nothing to improve the Reds’ chances of silverware this season.
As a result, fans will want to see more business being done before the deadline passes.
Thankfully, Liverpool are doing something. On Monday, the surprising news broke that the Reds are pushing to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

As it must, the move appears to be developing quickly. And journalist Fabrizio Romano was on hand to give the latest on the possibility of Chiesa arriving at Anfield on Tuesday evening.
“During talks on Monday, Federico Chiesa opened the doors to Liverpool as he’s super keen on the move,” says Romano.
“Negotiations underway between all parties involved to get the deal done, Liverpool are confident. The only club to approach Juve with formal contact has been Liverpool.”
Will Liverpool sign anyone else?
This has the potential to be a really exciting move for Liverpool. Granted, it does not necessarily address one of the big issues currently within the team, but Chiesa is an excellent player.
That the Reds could sign him for around £12.75m just four years after Juventus paid £54m to get him out of Fiorentina is a real feather in FSG’s cap.
Nevertheless, fans will likely want more through the door before Friday.
A new midfielder is still wanted by many given that Stefan Bajcetic and Tyler Morton both now look likely to leave. Liverpool would also be wise to target a new centre-back while they still can.
Despite those needs, though, time is running out for anything else to happen. If Liverpool have something in the pipeline, it needs to become apparent very quickly indeed.
