Liverpool could still do with finalising some business in the final days of the summer transfer window.
With the Reds having failed to sign a single player since the window opened, there is a feeling that they could just run out of time.
There is seemingly plenty for sporting director Richard Hughes to sort out, with a number of positions in the Liverpool squad in need of strengthening.
Midfield would still look like the most pressing matter in that respect, but after missing out on Martin Zubimendi it looks like Liverpool will not sign a midfielder this year.
With several potential outgoings in the defence, it now seems more likely that Arne Slot will have to dip into the market to bolster his back line instead.

Liverpool keen on Mohamed Simakan
There is the potential that Liverpool end up losing two or three centre-backs before next Friday’s transfer deadline. Sepp van den Berg looks likely to leave while Joe Gomez is weighing up his future as well.
Throw in the fact that Nat Phillips has interest, too, and Liverpool are starting to look very short.
Should all three of those transfers happen, then there is absolutely no way that the Reds can go into the season with what they have. It would be 2020/21 all over again.
Thankfully, it sounds like Liverpool are looking at options who could come in to plug those gaps.

According to German journalist Philipp Hinze, Liverpool think that one of those possible solutions could be RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan.
Simakan has been linked with Liverpool before this summer and according to Hinze the 24-year-old is still on Slot’s list.
“Once again confirmed: Liverpool FC continue to have interest in Leipzig’s defender Mo Simakan,” says the reporter. “It is not advanced or concrete, but Simakan is still on Liverpool’s list. Juventus also keeping an eye on the Frenchman.
“Simakan is not unhappy in Leipzig. However, the Frenchman is open to the next step. There is generally a lot of interest from Europe – but no one been concrete so far.”
How much would Mohamed Simakan cost?
There’s little question that Liverpool have to sign a defender if they do all the outgoing business it looks like they might.
Selling Van den Berg, Gomez and Phillips could potentially bring Liverpool almost £80m in sales. That money would then have to be reinvested.
In terms of Simakan, Liverpool could seemingly bring him in with plenty of change left to spare. There have been reports that Simakan would cost around £34m to prize away from Leipzig.
That doesn’t sound like a bad price for a player who former Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch said is ‘fast, very aggressive and has a real footballing brain’ [Bundesliga.com].
There are still a lot of moving parts to this, but if Liverpool do end up needing a new centre-back, don’t be surprised if Simakan is the man they go for.
