What Darwin Nunez was caught on camera telling staff in the Anfield tunnel after last night’s game

Darwin Nunez was left frustrated by another goalless display for Liverpool last night.

Unable to start the game having been suffering from cramp through the week, Nunez was used as an impact substitute by Jurgen Klopp against Fulham.

And impact the Uruguayan certainly did. Coming on with 35 minutes to play and Liverpool 1-0 down, Darwin turned the game around. Two assists for the Reds No.9 as he helped his team to a 2-1 win.

But despite the excellent cameo from Nunez, he seemed a little annoyed by the outcome. He tested Bernd Leno in the Fulham goal on three separate, very good occasions. The best of which was a point-blank flicked effort which Leno somehow stopped with his feet.

Perhaps it was that miss that Nunez was referring to when caught on camera in the Anfield tunnel at full-time. X account LFC Transfer Room translated the comments, made in Spanish, as the following: “Brother, the ball just doesn’t want to go in.”

It isn’t clear exactly who Darwin was talking to, but when the camera panned to him entering the changing room a few seconds later, the big man was all smiles and high-fives. Keep on going lad, it’s coming!

Nunez airs frustration

No one will be more frustrated by his recent record in-front of goal than Nunez himself. Another blank last night now makes it just one goal in his last 17 appearances for Liverpool.

But despite his inability to put the ball in the back of the net, Darwin is still contributing in big ways for the Reds.

Even if it isn’t with tangible goal contributions, the 24-year-old is always in the thick of the action.

Liverpool were quite frankly dreadful last night up until the moment Nunez came off the bench. Instantly having to deal with a willing runner into the channels, Fulham were penned back in.

From there, it felt like only a matter of time before the pressure told. That wasn’t all Darwin, obviously, but he played a really big part in it.

The lack of goals is certainly a source of irritation, and perhaps it always will be. Maybe the former Benfica striker just isn’t going to be the prolific scorer he has always threatened to become.

But you do still get the sense that if he continues to be given the chances by Klopp – and he will be – that eventually it will click.

All three of his efforts that tested Leno last night were excellent. There are times when his finishing is poor, but you have to say that at the moment Darwin is just downright unlucky. For now, it just won’t go in. But it will.
