Brighton have made reported Liverpool target Levi Colwill their top priority for the summer transfer window.
Colwill spent a good season on-loan at Brighton last season, with the Seagulls impressed enough to make a £30m bid for him. That was rejected out of hand by Chelsea, who have no intention of letting the 20-year-old go.
However, according to The Athletic, Brighton are still determined to get their man. They claim that Roberto De Zerbi has installed Colwill as his ‘top target’ for the rest of the summer.

Given the difficulty of signing the England U21 star though, Brighton do reportedly have a back-up plan ready for action.
The South Coast side are said to have Fiorentina’s Igor Julio and Calvin Bassey of Ajax on a list of alternatives.
Liverpool have been continually linked with a move for Colwill, although they aren’t mentioned in any capacity here.
Brighton still pushing for Colwill
It’s interesting that Brighton are still yet to give up on their chase to bring Colwill back to the Amex next season. From the outside looking in, it would look like an incredibly difficult one to get done.
But the Seagulls have clearly been given some kind of encouragement from somewhere. There’s no way a club as savvy as Brighton would chase down a lost cause so avidly.
The same could also be said of Liverpool. The Reds are reportedly convinced that they’re in with a shout of getting Colwill, too. If there was no chance at all, they’d have walked away by now.

So, it stands to reason that if Brighton are still in the running, then Liverpool very much are as well.
De Zerbi and co might feel they have a slight advantage in that Colwill obviously enjoyed his time at their club last season. He seemed to like working with the Italian coach, who labelled him as a ‘fantastic’ player [The Argus]. As they’re also locked in negotiations with Chelsea for the sale of Moises Caicedo, you feel the two deals could be linked. That could be to their advantage.
However, Liverpool are still Liverpool. The Reds have far deeper pockets than their Europa League rivals and the prospect of playing for the club of his childhood idol – Steven Gerrard – will surely hold weight for Colwill.
Still, we’d be surprised if either club ends up winning this race. Chelsea have been very clear in their position regarding their academy graduate. Now dealing with a new injury to Wesley Fofana, we don’t see why they’d let him go.
