Liverpool smell blood in their pursuit of Chelsea defender Levi Colwill and genuinely think they can sign him.
Colwill has emerged as the Reds top target to bolster their defence this summer. But up until now, the expectation has been that it’ll be very difficult indeed to get him out of Chelsea.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey though, that may no longer be the case. Speaking on 90min’s Talking Transfer Podcast, Bailey claimed that Liverpool are growing in confidence that a move could actually happen.

“Our understanding is that there is a bit of confidence here, Liverpool think they can get him out,” says the journalist. “Levi Colwill is ensured he can get a chance at Chelsea.
“Chelsea don’t want him to leave, but if players don’t commit their future they do sell. I think Colwill quite fancies this, there’s something in this.
“Liverpool are pushing quite hard for this, there is blood in the water and they really sense that. He is their top target now and there is a belief at Anfield that they could get him.”
Liverpool growing in confidence on Colwill
Belief or no belief, it’s going to cost Liverpool a bomb to sign Colwill this summer. If Chelsea end up caving and selling the 20-year-old, it won’t be on the cheap.
Brighton have already seemingly given up hope after seeing a £30m offer rejected. An offer of £40m was supposedly on the way from the Seagulls, but has yet to arrive.
For Liverpool they are apparently ready to pay whatever fee is necessary to bring Colwill to Anfield.

They seemingly believe that the England U21 star wants the move and are ready to test Chelsea’s resolve. As of yet though, no concrete offer seems forthcoming.
At the moment, Liverpool are perhaps too focused on sorting out their midfield. They still don’t know how that area of the squad will look like next season and are relatively settled in defence.
If Colwill isn’t signed, for example, Jurgen Klopp still has four very good centre-back options to choose from. Should he miss out on getting another midfielder in, the consequences will be more severe.
So, it may still be a while until we see any exact movement in regards to Colwill to Liverpool. But as long as his situation at Chelsea remains precarious, maybe that’s no bad thing.
