Manchester United have become the latest British team to part with their manager, while Liverpool continue to stick with Arne Slot.
During a run of three wins from 12 towards the back end of 2025, there was talk about the Dutchman leaving Anfield.
However, Liverpool opted to back Slot, a decision that hasn’t really paid off.
Technically, results have improved, but four draws from seven in the Premier League, coupled with some dire performances, have led to frustration.
Why won’t Liverpool follow Man United’s lead and SACK Arne Slot?

Meanwhile, fellow ‘big six’ teams Manchester United and Chelsea have already parted ways with their head coaches in the last week.
Liverpool fans wanted Manchester United target Oliver Glasner
Liverpool fans want Slot gone, but their only issue was who could come in as a potential replacement midway through the campaign.
This seemingly wasn’t something Man Utd were concerned about when they decided to part ways with Ruben Amorim.
Steven Fletcher is expected to take interim charge of the club moving forward, with it being reported, including by talkSPORT, that Oliver Glasner is one of the leading contenders to take the full-time role, potentially at the end of the season.
Back when Slot was under a lot of pressure in late 2025, Liverpool fans wanted Glasner in the dugout, naming him as their ideal replacement.
Now though, Man Utd’s actions could end up seeing the Austrian have his head turned by a move to Old Trafford at some point this year, taking a potential managerial option off the table if and when Slot leaves the club.
It seems like a major mistake on FSG’s part, who are only delaying the inevitable and wasting their own time when it comes to the dismissal of Slot.
The football is harrowing, the results still aren’t amazing, and unless there is a major U-turn in form in the next couple of months, Liverpool look set to join the managerial hunt later this year; they’ll just be well behind Man Utd in their plans.

Liverpool should follow Manchester United blueprint
Even if Liverpool don’t think they can make a permanent appointment now, Man Utd have shown there is an alternative.
Fletcher knows the club well, and the hierarchy are likely hoping the ex-player will have a similar impact to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he first became their interim boss.
Liverpool should follow suit and appoint Steven Gerrard, who is open to a return, as he already confirmed in December.
He said: “I’ll be brutally, brutally honest with you. I’d help Liverpool in any department at any minute of every day. I’d help them with anything.
“I don’t want Arne Slot to lose his job. I want him to fix this and turn it around and make Liverpool great. I was bouncing all over the city four or five months ago when Liverpool won the league.”
