Florian Wirtz has been in his best form for Liverpool when he’s been used on the left wing.

Arne Slot has tried to use the young German all across the pitch, and while he’s seen as one of the best number 10s in the world, due to the freedom he gets on the wing, he’s done better in that role than any other.

Cody Gakpo is the player who Slot prefers to use in that position, but after his recent performances against Manchester United and Brentford, it’s clear that he needs to be dropped.

Using Wirtz on the left would give the German a chance to prove his worth once again and perhaps allow him to become the hero for Liverpool.

Alan Pardew has already said that Slot trying to use him anywhere else has left him baffled, especially with how well he’s done when used on the flanks.

And, unless Slot starts to listen to the fans and even Pardew, things could go from bad to worse in little to no time.

Florian Wirtz’s creative flair can come out when he’s used as a winger

One of the best attributes that Wirtz has is his ability to create something out of nothing.

He was Bayer Leverkusen’s best player by a country mile last term, with his former club sitting in fifth in the Bundesliga without his guidance.

And, while he was mainly used as an attacking midfielder by Xabi Alonso, the physicality of the Premier League makes it a lot harder for him to dribble his way out of problems, especially when he’s facing some of the best defenders in the world.

However, when he’s on the wing, not only can his impressive range of passing be put to good use, but his keen eye for goal is also best used when he has time to think about his next move.

Liverpool are set to face Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday in a game which will not be a walk in the park, but if Wirtz is used on the wing, they’ll have a much better chance of succeeding.

If Liverpool had spent £50 million or £60 million on Wirtz, most people would be giving him much less stick.

However, since his final fee could be worth up to £116 million, fans, journalists, and pundits all expected to see a lot more from the midfielder.

It’s not like he hasn’t been given the chance to prove his worth either, because, at almost every chance he’s had, Slot has used him in his first-team squad.

When looking at Wirtz’s highlights for Leverkusen, it’s clear that he thrived on being the best player on the team.

However, now that he’s playing alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alexander Isak, he needs to dig deeper and prove why he’s the Reds’ second-most expensive signing ever.

If he doesn’t come good by the end of the season, it’s going to raise a lot of questions, with many of them being directed towards the German and why he hasn’t succeeded.
