Florian Wirtz may have given Liverpool a reason not to sign Antoine Semenyo in January.
Recently, the Bournemouth attacker has been linked with an Anfield switch in the winter transfer window despite the Reds’ massive £450million summer spend.
And, before Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday, it felt like the Ghanaian was exactly what the Anfield outfit needed.
However, in Wednesday’s victory, Wirtz was used as a right midfielder, and to be honest, it’s the best he’s ever played for Arne Slot.
The midfielder was able to roam across the entirety of the pitch and even fill in the gap behind Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike from time to time.

And, to put the icing on the cake, he even got himself two assists and finally broke his terrible run of luck.
Florian Wirtz could end up being Liverpool’s new Mohamed Salah
At the moment, Mohamed Salah is undoubtedly Liverpool’s first-choice right-winger, with Federico Chiesa hardly getting any game time whatsoever.
And, although Slot dropped the Egyptian King on Wednesday, this was likely due to the number of games he’s already played this season, rather than his form.
That is, even though Salah has been performing well below his usual standards.
The attacker has chipped in with the odd goal here and there, but more often than not, he’s left Liverpool’s fans rather baffled.
So, if Wirtz can keep his performance levels to this standard for the rest of the season; it’s hard to see why he wouldn’t replace Salah in Liverpool’s starting XI.
That is, especially since the Egyptian King’s contract runs out in the summer of 2027.
Liverpool will no longer need to sign Antoine Semenyo in January
This season, Semenyo has been used on both flanks by Andoni Iraola.
Not only would his versatility massively help Liverpool, but it would also provide Slot with another option to choose from in attack
However, after they spent over £450million in the summer, with most of it being spent on new attackers, it feels silly for Liverpool to add yet another world-class attacking talent to their squad.

Wirtz and Isak are only just starting to find their feet for Liverpool, and, if Slot chooses to add another player into that dynamic, there would be no way for him to keep everyone happy.
The fact that Semenyo would also cost around £75million to bring in would mean that the Reds would hardly be able to make any moves in the summer, even though it’s clear that they still need to add a couple of new faces to their ranks.
