Liverpool considering move for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as Mohamed Salah replacement

Liverpool have long been linked with a move for Antoine Semenyo.

The Bournemouth attacker has been in fine form this season, as he’s already managed to contribute to nine goals across all competitions.

Semenyo can play on either wing, with the Ghanaian arguably being one of the Premier League’s best performers this season.

And, since Mohamed Salah hasn’t lived up to his usual standards, it’s not a surprise to see the attacker linked with a Liverpool move in January.

Liverpool could make a move for Antoine Semenyo in January

One area of Liverpool’s team that are really struggling this season is their wingers.

Now that Luis Diaz has joined Bayern Munich and Darwin Nunez has been shipped off to Saudi Arabia, the Reds only have five senior attacking options at their disposal.

Both Salah and Cody Gakpo have been way off the pace this season, and even though Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike can be played on the left if needed, they’re not natural wingers, and they won’t likely have much of an impact.

This is why it isn’t a surprise to see journalist Mark Douglas reporting that Liverpool are ‘considering’ a January move for Semenyo.

The report from The i suggests that the Cherries ‘know they face a battle’ to keep hold of their star man over the next year or so.

And, after his incredible start to the season, Liverpool have now ‘joined the crop of clubs’ interested in the attacker.

Douglas outlines that Semenyo’s release clause is what’s piquing the interest of the Anfield outfit, with the Reds potentially looking to ‘exploit’ it in January.

Antoine Semenyo would help solve most of Liverpool’s attacking problems

One of the main things that people have talked about regarding Liverpool this season is the number of new players they’ve brought in.

In fact, they’ve already added so many new faces to their ranks that, at the moment, none of their team can gel with one another.

However, with the start to the Premier League season that Semenyo has had, it’s hard to see how his transfer wouldn’t massively improve the Reds’ chances of winning the league.

He’d offer cover for both wings and would even be available during the African Cup of Nations, seeing as though Ghana failed to qualify.

Indeed, Tottenham are also among the interested clubs and seeing as though Semenyo has a release clause set at £70million, a deal won’t come cheap.

But, if Liverpool have enough PSR headroom and are able to pull off a deal, it’s hard to suggest a reason why they shouldn’t.
