Florian Wirtz now doing extra training sessions to try and get better for Liverpool and Germany

Florian Wirtz hasn’t been in the best run of form since joining Liverpool.

Most fans and pundits expected the young German to instantly hit the ground running and become an even better player.

However, things haven’t quite panned out like that with the 22-year-old only having one goal contribution at the moment.

He’s been used on the left wing and in his favoured number 10 position, but no matter what Arne Slot tries, nothing seems to be working.

So, with this in mind, it’s hardly come as a surprise to see the German making some moves to try and improve his performances.

Despite his poor form, the former Bayer Leverkusen man has still been called up to Germany’s squad.

During the last international break, the midfielder managed to bag a free-kick, which many thought could end up being the turning point in his season.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case, and now, as per a report from BILD, it seems like Wirtz is trying everything to improve his lacklustre form.

The German outlet reports that Wirtz put in ‘extra shifts’ after their normal training sessions were finished.

He focused on ‘goal-scoring practice’ and he then ‘hit the weight room.’

His teammate, David Raum, shared his thoughts on Wirtz’s poor form and said, “The boy is hardworking and shows energy on and off the pitch. He was once again one of the longest players on the pitch today.

“We believe in the boy, we’re building him up here. But he knows what he’s capable of.”

Florian Wirtz needs to work his magic upon his return to Liverpool

One thing that is blindingly obvious about Wirtz is the amount of quality he has.

Although the statistics don’t show it, the German has been an impressive player for Liverpool when included.

He’s created plenty of chances for his teammates, with Mohamed Salah even apologising to him against Chelsea after he missed a glorious chance that Wirtz had set up for him.

The October international break, while usually frowned upon, has actually come at a really good time for Liverpool, as it’ll give Slot and co. a chance to look over what’s gone wrong in their last three games.

In most people’s eyes, it’s clear that a tactical change needs to be made, and, if the Anfield outfit chooses to change things to a diamond formation like most fans want them to, it’s hard to see how Wirtz wouldn’t thrive as the number 10.

Of course, only time will tell whether or not things will change and Wirtz will get better, but, at the moment, all Liverpool fans want to see from the 22-year-old is a goal, or even an assist.

Here’s hoping that happens upon his return to Anfield.
