The prospect of Liverpool’s summer transfer business has got every supporter twitching with excitement.
Reds fans have become used to slightly low-key windows over recent times, having made just one new signing across each of the last three.
That all looks set to change in the summer of 2025, though, with Jeremie Frimpong having already become the first player added to the Liverpool squad.
Florian Wirtz is likely to follow, with the German standing by for a medical as Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen negotiate a fee.
But the Reds are highly unlikely to be finished there. As well as bringing in a left-back, more surgery will be done on the forward line.
There had been a suggestion that Wirtz could be the new striker Liverpool have so badly needed. However, after Arne Slot made a private promise to the 22-year-old, it is probable that another centre-forward and even a left winger may now be added.

Arne Slot makes Florian Wirtz promise
Signing Wirtz had not felt like a priority for Liverpool ahead of the summer window. Given that he tends to play as an orthodox attacking midfielder, there seemed to be more pressing concerns.
That Liverpool are willing to spend a club record fee to get him may have suggested to some that Wirtz will be deployed as the most advanced attacker, or even as a left winger, where Luis Diaz could leave.
However, according to journalist Christian Falk, Slot has promised Wirtz that he will play in his favoured attacking midfield position.
“The decisive factor in his decision was that Arne Slot offered him ownership of the number 10 role at Liverpool,” Falk writes in his Fact Files column. “In Munich, he would have had to share this with Jamal Musiala. The talks with the coaches were decisive.”
With Wirtz in the 10, Liverpool clearly still need a new striker. Reports have suggested that Hugo Ekitike could be a concrete target. However, Falk has claimed that Chelsea lead the race for Ekitike.
Whether it is the Frenchman or someone else, Liverpool are likely to have to spend big in order to secure a player who can come straight in and improve the squad. And after a Friday update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, they may also need to do the same at left wing.
Liverpool need two more blockbuster signings
According to Romano, Saudi side Al Nassr have made Diaz their top target ahead of their window opening.
“Al Nassr consider Luis Diaz as one of their main targets for the summer window to re-start with ambitious plan,” he says. “Barcelona have also Luis Diaz on the list, but it depends on financial request by Liverpool.”
Al Nassr obviously have the money it would take to convince Liverpool to part with Diaz. If they firm up their interest, it seems likely the Colombian will leave.
Should that happen, Wirtz would be a candidate to play out on the left wing in tandem with Cody Gakpo. However, given Slot’s promise to the German, that now looks like it will not happen.
So, as well as going big on Wirtz and another striker, it looks entirely likely that Liverpool will need a third, blockbuster addition at left wing.
In our opinion, this could be where Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon could become a topic again.
Liverpool would have to pay big money to get Gordon out of Newcastle. But with the Scouser surely still keen on a return to his boyhood club, we would certainly keep an eye on that. Exciting times ahead.
