Liverpool completed their first buy of the summer on Friday as Jeremie Frimpong signed in.
With the transfer market not officially open until Sunday, the Reds have moved quickly to bring in a hugely exciting new addition.
But Liverpool are not stopping there. Frimpong appears to be just the start of what is likely to be the Reds’ biggest and most expensive transfer period of all time.
Talks are underway for Milos Kerkez to join from Bournemouth, while concrete links are appearing with regards to Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt.
But while both Kerkez and Ekitike would be welcome additions at Anfield, the target who has really captured Liverpool fans’ imaginations is Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool are pushing to tie up a record deal for Wirtz after the German turned down interest from Bayern Munich. And as talks continue between the Reds and Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz is reportedly poised to complete his move.

Florian Wirtz waiting for Liverpool medical
Liverpool submitted a second offer for Wirtz on Friday as they aim to close the gap on their valuation and Leverkusen’s.
With reports suggesting that the bid included a guaranteed fee of £109m, the Germany international would comfortably become Liverpool’s record signing if he joins.
Taking to X on Friday evening, journalist Florian Plettenberg added a little more colour to the story, reporting that Wirtz is currently ‘waiting for the green light’ to undergo a medical as a new Liverpool player.
“A new €125-130m offer from Liverpool for Florian Wirtz has been submitted,” says Plettenberg. “However, there is still no total agreement with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Negotiations are ongoing.”
“A prompt agreement remains the goal of both clubs. It is said to be just a matter of days now. There is also continued talk of a Liverpool player who could potentially be included in the deal.
“Wirtz is currently with the German national team in Herzogenaurach. Waiting for the green light to undergo his medical.”
‘Everything points to’ deal being done soon
While supporters will remain anxious up until the point a transfer is officially announced, this looks to be going in the right direction.
Journalist Dominic King appears to think so, anyway. Delivering an update on Friday evening, King said that ‘everything points to Liverpool securing Wirtz soon’.
“Everything points to Liverpool securing Florian Wirtz soon – neither they nor Leverkusen want discussions to drag on,” he says.
“Currently the bid package is €130m; Leverkusen want €150m; doing business at €143m (£120m) would shatter records.”
It is certainly going to be an expensive one for Liverpool. But Xabi Alonso called Wirtz a ‘genius‘ during their time together, and having been convinced he is the game-changing signing they need, the Reds look on course to pay up.
