Liverpool looking into move for ‘generational’ player and have made enquiry ahead of summer deal

Liverpool look set to end the January transfer window with no new signings, with movement in the market at a bare minimum.

Although Calvin Ramsay has left on loan for Kilmarnock with Stefan Bajcetic close to leaving for Las Palmas, the prospect of Liverpool making any signings themselves before the closure of the window next week looks next to zero.

Whilst Liverpool have been linked with Joshua Kimmich, no major outgoings in the first-team squad will seemingly lead to no big arrivals on the flip side, with Arne Slot’s side currently sat top of the Premier League and UEFA Champions League standings.

Yet whilst no signings might be made this window, plans for the summer seem to be in full effect, and Liverpool appear to have made their first move to sign a rumoured target heading into the second-half of the season.

Liverpool make enquiry to sign Olympique Lyonnais’ Rayan Cherki

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are one of two Premier League sides to make an enquiry for Olympique Lyonnais attacker Rayan Cherki, with Manchester United also making an approach for the youngster.

Once noted as a ‘generational’ talent by BeIN Sports, Cherki has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool this January, with the attacker set to leave the French giants at the end of this season when his contract ticks over into the final 12 months.

Fabrizio Romano has even teased that Liverpool could move for Cherki this month, though given how little time there is before the window closes and how many attacking options Slot currently has, a transfer seems unlikely at this stage.

Yet with Liverpool making an enquiry for the France youth international, there’s a real chance that the Anfield side could make a real attempt to sign the 21-year-old attacker in the summer, who could become a key player for the Merseyside giants for many years to come.

Where do Lyon stand on letting Cherki leave this year?

Cherki is the latest in a long line of Lyon academy players who look set to become world-beaters, with the French side one of the best clubs in Europe when it comes to developing home-grown talents and selling them off for big profits.

And Lyon are fully aware and open to letting Cherki leave this year, opening the door for Liverpool to make an ambitious move for the youngster in the summer should the Reds losing one of their many attacking options at the end of this season.

Indeed, Liverpool have evolved a lot since the appointment of Slot last summer, and the squad looks set to change even more at the end of this season with Cherki shaping up to be a big target for the Reds in the off-season market.
