With just over two weeks to go for the January transfer window to slam shut, Liverpool are yet to fine-tune their squad this month.

Rayan Cherki also has keen admirers at Anfield, and now, the Frenchman has taken a major step towards securing a transfer this month.

January is usually a tough time to do business as it’s hard to find value for money midway through the season.

However, in recent years, Liverpool have made a few important moves in the mid-season transfer window, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo all joining the club in January.

The Reds have a strong squad, but that’s not to say there’s no scope for improvement, especially after they refrained from splashing the cash in the summer.

Cherki could be viewed as a market opportunity by Michael Edwards and his team and according to Sky Germany, the player is available for just £19m in January.

The French international now has a verbal agreement with Lyon to leave the club in January, although the club are yet to receive any formal offers for him.

Slot has already greenlit a move for Cherki, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool make an official offer to secure his signature.

Cherki is a versatile player who is capable of playing as a centre forward, an attacking midfielder and a number ten, making him an intriguing option for Liverpool.

The Reds are well-stacked in attack, but his technical excellence coupled with his creativity could add another dimension to Slot’s firepower.

His end product during the first half of the season makes for impressive reading and with a price tag of £19m, he could well be the perfect low-risk-high-reward kind of signing.
