Liverpool transfer rumours continue to gather pace over the early days of the winter
2025 market, so Rousing The Kop has rounded up the latest Reds news and rumours.
The window is still very much in its infancy since swinging open on January 1. But a number of rumours have flown in and out of Anfield as Liverpool look to give Arne Slot the tools the Dutchman needs to deliver the Premier League, Champions League, EFL Cup and/or FA Cup.
All four titles are very much still within the Reds’ reach at the turn of the year and Liverpool are even the favourites to win the Premier League, having led the way despite playing in 18 rather than 19 games. Liverpool also have the top defensive and offensive records this term.
With that in mind, Rousing The Kop has rounded up all of the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours as Slot faces a fight to retain two key players but has a number of targets, too.
Real Madrid are willing to pay Liverpool £20m to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold

The saga surrounding the future of Liverpool academy product Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to rumble on with the Real Madrid transfer target a free agent this summer. And despite the Reds’ clear reluctance to lose the right-back, the Galacticos may put their resolve to the test.
Despite seeing their enquiry fall short before the winter window even officially opened, Real Madrid are considering contacting Liverpool to sign Alexander-Arnold again. Los Blancos are keen to sign the 26-year-old this month with coach Carlo Ancelotti driving their interest, too.
Real Madrid are willing to pay Liverpool £20m to sign Alexander-Arnold in January, although the bid is extremely likely to fail. Anfield chiefs are clear that they have no interest in selling their vice-captain with Liverpool even still in talks with Alexander-Arnold for a new contract.
Alexander-Arnold has started in all but two and has appeared in all but one of Liverpool’s 18 Premier League games so far this season under Arne Slot. The full-back also scored his first goal of the term in Liverpool’s 5-0 win at West Ham United, to add to his four assists to date.
Barcelona are convinced they have a real chance of signing Liverpool star Luis Diaz

Trent Alexander-Arnold might not be the only Liverpool star to head to Spain in 2025 as Real Madrid target a transfer, as FC Barcelona are also interested in signing Luis Diaz. The Camp Nou club are even convinced they could tempt the Colombian forward of a switch to La Liga.
The Blaugrana’s sporting director Deco is driving Barcelona’s interest in Diaz’s transfer from Liverpool as he searches for the Catalan giant’s next star winger. Deco even tried to sign the 27-year-old last summer but the Reds refused to let him go. Yet his interest remains strong.
Deco thinks Barcelona have great chance to sign Diaz as his entourage, who form part of his agency with which the Blaugrana have great ties, are frustrated with Liverpool’s inability to agree on a new contract. His deal expires in June 2027 but Diaz is keen to receive a pay rise.
Arne Slot is also leaving Diaz somewhat annoyed as the Liverpool head coach does not start the winger as often as he would like. Through his 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, Diaz has opened the action 17 times. He even has 12 goals and three assists.
Martin Zubimendi is ready to leave Real Sociedad after rejecting Liverpool

Liverpool spent substantial time targeting the transfer of Martin Zubimendi last summer just for the Spain star to decide he did not want to leave Real Sociedad. But the Reds might now have a chance to sign the 25-year-old, if Arne Slot remains interested in the midfield anchor.
That is because European football expert Guillem Balague claims Zubimendi is now ready to leave Real Sociedad, but he doubts Liverpool will revive their pursuit of his transfer. Instead, Manchester City like Zubimendi ‘a lot’ and are the Premier League actively targeting a move.
Real Sociedad remain insistent that the only way Zubimendi leaves the Anoeta is if any team triggers his £50m release clause. The Spain anchor is under contract to June 2027 and has featured in 21 of their 26 matches – starting in 20 – for one goal and two assists this season.
Tyler Morton is waiting for Liverpool to decide on his January transfer

Liverpool are leaving young talent Tyler Morton in the lurch through the opening days of the winter 2025 transfer window as the Reds are still to decide on his immediate future. The 22-year-old has so far struggled to earn minutes this season and could leave Anfield this month.
But Liverpool have not told Morton his transfer status as he waits to learn if the Reds will let the midfielder leave – either on loan or permanently. Bayer Leverkusen were interested in a deal last summer but the Reds blocked all loan offers after failing to sign Martin Zubimendi.
Despite Liverpool retaining Morton to make up their numbers, the midfielder has only made three appearances and each came in the EFL Cup for 162 minutes in total. He has also so far been an unused substitute for eight Premier League games plus five Champions League ties.
Samuele Ricci has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Torino despite his new contract

Liverpool have suffered an early blow in the winter 2025 transfer market with the news that midfield target Samuele Ricci has signed a new contract at Torino. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal, keeping him at the Serie A side through until at least June 2028.
But while the news of his new contract may come as a blow for the Reds’ interest in a move, it also offers a positive. Ricci and Torino have a gentleman’s agreement for him to leave the club if any suitor, with AC Milan and Manchester City also interested, tables a £20-25m deal.
The Reds have cast their eye over the Italy international this season as they weigh up targets to bolster Arne Slot’s engine room. Ricci had stood out with his displays from the base of the Toro’s engine room, also captaining the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino club against Udinese.
