Former England winger Andros Townsend has now shared his thoughts on that potential transfer, saying on The Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live: “I don’t think he necessarily wants to leave Liverpool, or is searching to leave Liverpool.

“But Real Madrid is Real Madrid. If there is interest from Real Madrid, I don’t think as a player you can turn that down.
“He’s won the Premier League, he’s won the Champions League, he’s won a lot at Liverpool. You can’t really say no. I’m using Real Madrid a lot but you can’t really say no to Real Madrid.”

Liverpool supporters would simply be devastated if Alexander-Arnold left the club, especially having watched him progress from academy graduate to first-team star.
More worryingly, however, is the idea of losing him on a free transfer, which will be the case if his contract is allowed to run its course.
Seeing the defender move on would be a massive blow, but fans wouldn’t forgive the powers that be if no money was brought in for his services.

That would definitely be the case if it was indeed Real Madrid who were the club to steal one of the world’s best defenders from Liverpool.
For now, however, Alexander-Arnold simply needs to block out all of the noise and continue his fine performances under the watchful eye of Slot.
