Trent Alexander-Arnold shares agreement he has made with Arne Slot at Liverpool

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is among the many high-profile names currently shining under Arne Slot.

Slot labelled Alexander-Arnold ‘outstanding’ after Liverpool overcame Bournemouth 3-0 at Anfield in the Premier League.

The results leave the Reds just one point behind leaders Manchester City after five matches, with a trip to Wolves up next.

Up first, however, is a League Cup clash at Anfield, with Slot suggesting Darwin Nunez could start that meeting with West Ham.

First-choice right-back Alexander-Arnold is likely to be rested by Slot, with the Dutchman needing to keep the defender as fresh as possible.

The Anfield star proved his worth once more against Bournemouth, taking his Liverpool goal involvement tally to 100 with his assist for Luis Diaz’s second goal.

According to The Times, however, it is the defensive side of Alexander-Arnold’s game that Slot wants to really focus on.

“We agreed that he [Slot] will be harsh on me,” said Alexander-Arnold. “If any time an attacker gets by me and gets past me, he will call it out in meetings, and individual meetings, and say this cannot happen.

“We go through every game together and he highlights where he wants me to improve. Even after the Milan game, we had about 20 clips going through what I could have done better and the good parts as well.

“It is really refreshing to have a manager who will help and guide and teach me how to be better as a player. I am someone who wants to learn, someone who wants to be the best and someone who strives to be the best ever.”

Alexander-Arnold was in superb form against the Cherries, and showed his attacking prowess with his blistering run forward before slotting the ball through to Diaz.

The right-back now has 81 assists in all competitions for the Reds, along with 19 goals, reaching the 100-mark from 316 appearances.

The deal with Slot will please many Liverpool fans, with the player’s defensive issues often coming under scrutiny, but those should fade away if the club can continue keeping clean sheets.

There is, however, also the very important issue of the defender’s contract, with Alexander-Arnold’s deal expiring next summer.

Hopefully the England star and the Liverpool boss find time in their private meetings to discuss the issue and reach an agreement on a new contract as soon as possible.
