Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Trent Alexander-Arnold for some time, with the Liverpool defender yet to renew his contract with the Reds.

Even with Alexander-Arnold winning plaudits for England during this international break, the 25-year-old fullback’s future at Liverpool remains a big talking point amongst supporters, with the right-back’s deal set to expire next summer.

With Madrid linked with signing Alexander-Arnold in 2025 for free, Liverpool faces a race against time to secure the defender’s long-term future, with the England international shining this season under new manager Arne Slot.

And Madrid have now made a new ploy in their bid to sign the Liverpool star.

Real Madrid now testing Alexander-Arnold’s resolve to leave Liverpool

According to Sport, Madrid continue to keep tabs on Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation at Liverpool, with Los Blancos working to break the defender’s resolve in order to influence a move to Spain.

With the right-back position something Madrid are looking to improve in 2025 with Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez both reaching the end of their careers with the La Liga giants, Alexander-Arnold would be quite the upgrade for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

With Madrid also looking at Alphonso Davies as a new left-back signing, the reigning Spanish champions are seemingly stopping at nothing to create what could become one of the greatest football teams ever assembled.

And with work being done to bring Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabeu, Liverpool need to get down to work in resolving their star fullback’s contract, with time running out for the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract has to be Liverpool’s main priority

With Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah in similar positions to Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool find themselves in something of a bind when it comes to awarding new contracts to star players.

Yet with Madrid hot on Alexander-Arnold’s heels and the defender the youngest of the three, Liverpool need to make the England international their main priority with handing out fresh terms.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold is a Liverpool legend in the making and a defender who is already ranked amongst the best in the world, and losing the academy graduate for nothing to Madrid would be a killer blow for the Reds.
