Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold enjoyed one of the best international breaks in recent history, with the right-back shining for England.

Alexander-Arnold impressed Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk with his display against Finland, which the Three Lions won 2-0.

Lee Carsley’s side also beat the Republic of Ireland 2-0 in their other Nations League clash, with Alexander-Arnold awarded the Man of the Match honour on both occasions.

Jamie Carragher said it was ‘too easy’ for Alexander-Arnold on the international stage, with the Liverpool defender clearly a favourite of Carsley.

It is in stark contrast to previous England manager Gareth Southgate, who often overlooked the Anfield star.

But his talent is evident with Alexander-Arnold having also made a very strong start to Liverpool’s new season.

He has now returned back to Merseyside from the latest international break, with Liverpool capturing his first encounter with Arne Slot at the club’s training ground.

“Man of the Match two times!” Slot said before embracing the player. “Well done,” he added, with a delighted Alexander-Arnold saying: “Thank you.”

Alexander-Arnold proved his worth to England during the recent international break, but his displays also show just why Liverpool need to keep hold of him.

Very worryingly for all associated with the Reds, the defender’s contract is set to expire next summer, with no signs of a renewal at this moment in time.

Liverpool fans were already well aware of his endless talents before the current season got underway, with the player having been one of the best right-backs in world football for several years now.

A difficult summer for his nation at Euro 2024 had the potential to knock his confidence, but he has already helped Liverpool clinch three successive clean sheets under Slot, with his superb attacking play also coming to the fore.

The England situation does, of course, raise many eyebrows around Southgate, who perhaps would have enjoyed more success had he not overlooked the Liverpool full-back.
