Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold produced another Man of the Match display as England beat Finland 2-0.

Gary Lineker labelled Alexander-Arnold superb against Ireland, where the Liverpool full-back was Man of the Match in the 2-0 win.

And Anfield star Alexander-Arnold followed that performance in Dublin with another fantastic display against Finland at Wembley.

His displays will now raise eyebrows concerning Gareth Southgate’s decision to largely snub the player during Euro 2024.

The full-back started the major tournament in central midfield, but was quickly replaced for a more traditional midfielder as the competition went on.

English national media praised Alexander-Arnold for his latest England performances, with his Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk now getting in on the act.

Alexander-Arnold posed with his Man of the Match trophy on Instagram, writing: “2/2. A great week in camp,” with Van Dijk commenting with the clapping hands emoji.

Alexander-Arnold will now return to Anfield on a major high, having seemingly had a point to prove after his frustrating Euro 2024.

But interim England manager Lee Carsley made sure not to replicated Southgate’s failures, handing the defender back-to-back starts against Ireland and Finland.

Importantly, they came at right-back, although the Liverpool star was allowed to drift into midfield to help dictate play.

And he certainly did that, with his expert passing coming to light at Wembley as he provided the assist for Harry Kane’s opener.

Van Dijk will be eager for his Liverpool teammate to continue his fine start to the new season for both club and country when Nottingham Forest head to Anfield on Saturday.
