Liverpool manager Arne Slot was under increasing pressure in the summer transfer window to bring new faces to Anfield.

Slot certainly left it late, but in the end the Dutchman managed to secure the services of Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Chiesa’s father told him to accept Liverpool, while Mamardashvili will need to wait until next summer to make his Anfield switch.

Just two players came in the door at Liverpool this summer, but the Reds have managed to make a superb start to the new season.

But Slot may have been eyeing one or two more new faces in his first transfer window in charge, with a new number six having been eyed.

Martin Zubimendi rejected an Anfield transfer, while Liverpool wanted to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace late in the window.

The winger did, however, end up staying with the Eagles, with the Reds now needing to wait until future transfer windows if they want to pursue his signature.

And his potential fee has now emerged, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that Eze has a release clause of £68m that can be activated next year.

Do Liverpool need Eberechi Eze after signing Federico Chiesa?

Eze was among a number of Crystal Palace players who were linked with an exit in the recent summer transfer window.

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Marc Guehi, who like Eze has remained at Selhurst Park for the current season.

Palace did, however, lose another star attacker in Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, with Oliver Glasner’s side struggling without the winger so far this season.

But Eagles fans shouldn’t be worried about the future given their talented squad, with Phil Foden labelling Eze ‘unbelievable’ after their England exploits together.

Eze would undoubtedly be warmly welcomed by the Anfield faithful, but Slot may be unlikely to want to add another attacker to his ranks after the signature of Chiesa.
