The clock is quickly ticking down on whether Liverpool can make some new additions this summer.
Having barely moved a muscle throughout most of the transfer window, the Reds are now left scrambling if they want to do any business.
A move to sign Federico Chiesa is an interesting one which will no doubt add some depth to the Liverpool squad. But in attack is not necessarily where Arne Slot’s needs additions.
Heading into the window, it felt as though the Reds could do with a new centre-back and potentially a top quality defensive midfielder.
With less than 48 hours left for a player to be signed in either position, it feels likely that Liverpool will come up short. The problem positions will roll on for another year.

Liverpool eyeing Marc Guehi move
There is still the chance that Liverpool pull the trigger on a target and bolster their options in defence and midfield. However, with time running out, there is nothing concrete to say that they will.
Instead, the Reds will roll on with what they have and plan for how they can make the necessary adjustments in 2025 instead.
In terms of the defence, perhaps that is not the worst strategy in the world. With Joe Gomez likely to stay at Liverpool, Slot has four top quality options at centre-back.
Clearly, the player they really want has not been available to get this summer, with Gomez still onboard there’s no real harm in waiting.
And according to The Independent, the man they are waiting for could well be Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Guehi has been named as a Liverpool target during this summer, but it’s claimed that the Reds were never going to make a move on the 24-year-old with his current £70m asking price.
Instead, they are reportedly waiting to see how Palace’s talks with Newcastle over Guehi play out. If the England international leaves, obviously, there’ll be no dice. He’s gone. But if Guehi stays, it’s claimed that Liverpool could then come in for him next year.
At that point the former Chelsea prospect will have just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park and Palace will have lost their current leverage. For the moment, the chances of Guehi staying are said to be at ’50-50.’
How much is Marc Guehi worth?
Newcastle supporters must be incredibly frustrated with their club’s pursuit of Guehi this summer. The Magpies have seen a number of really high priced bids turned down by Palace.
£70m is an awful lot to pay for a player who has just two years left on his contract no matter who he is.
But while Guehi is a good defender, it’s arguable that his price should never be that high no matter the circumstances.
If a move does fail to get over the line, then Guehi may become a more feasible option for Liverpool. You’d imagine that the price would still be high, but perhaps the Reds would see value in something in the £30-40m mark.
In our opinion, Guehi will be worth less than that with one year left on his deal. But if Liverpool think he’s the right man and are willing to wait, then a little premium on top is digestible.
