The first international break of the season is already here, and Liverpool players have impressed already in recent days.

Caoimhin Kelleher won plaudits for his performance for the Republic of Ireland whilst Luis Diaz has maintained his Liverpool form for Colombia in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against South American rivals Peru.

Although Andy Robertson has disappointed for Scotland, it’s been a good few games for Arne Slot’s players, who heading into the Premier League return this weekend are looking good and healthy.

And Gary Lineker has been impressed with one Liverpool player on international duty this month.

Trent Alexander-Arnold praised after England performance vs Ireland

Speaking on the Rest is Football, the pundit was full of praise for Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool defender’s performance for England against Ireland, with the fullback returning to the right-back position for the Three Lions.

English media were in awe with what they saw from the 25-year-old Liverpool star as Alexander-Arnold was at his creative best for Lee Carsley, and Lineker loved what he saw from the Anfield vice captain in Dublin.

Lineker said: “I think it’s great to see Trent in the side. Some of his passes were superb, particularly obviously the one that he hit for Anthony Gordon that led to the first goal. I mean, what a pass that was! And it just strikes me, I just think how can this guy not be in the team somewhere.

“He’s so good, but I think it was that thing. All we have ever focused on is Trent’s weaknesses when it comes to England. Defensively, oh, he might make a mistake, but he might make one mistake but he might give you two or three opportunities to score because he’s so brilliant with the ball at his feet.”

Alexander-Arnold returning to top form with England could be massive

Alexander-Arnold’s England career in recent years has been strange under Gareth Southgate, with the midfield project one that ultimately failed for the Liverpool man at this summer’s Euros.

However, under Carsley, there’s real hope that Alexander-Arnold could return to top form for England and become the long-term successor for Kyle Walker in the right-back position.

Alexander-Arnold is one of the best fullbacks in the world and showed against Ireland just how good he can be when playing in the right system, and the defender will want to get his international career back on track in this new era for England.
