Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold shone as England beat the Republic of Ireland 2-0 in the Nations League.
Alexander-Arnold played the entire match in Dublin, with the Liverpool star operating at right-back but often moving into midfield.
The full-back has clearly done enough to impress interim manager Lee Carsley, with Alexander-Arnold shining in England training before the match.
It represents a somewhat different story to that under Gareth Southgate, who experimented with the Liverpool man in midfield.
But the failed operation resulted in the full-back watching on from the bench for a large chunk of England’s Euro 2024 journey.

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold impresses for England
Alexander-Arnold swapped shirts with Caoimhin Kelleher after the match, with the Anfield duo having gone head-to-head in the Irish capital.
He seemed in high spirits after the win and clean sheet, with English national media certainly impressed by the defender in Dublin.

The Guardian handed Alexander-Arnold an 8/10 rating, writing: “Showed how dangerous he can be. Brilliant pass was catalyst for opening goal and he dictated the tempo when stepping into midfield.”
The Metro also awarded him an 8/10, saying: “Finally allowed a chance to shine for his country after years of being behind Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier. Nearly set Harry Kane up for the opener with a great cross before his sublime ball to [Anthony] Gordon led to [Declan] Rice’s goal, though a little sloppy in the second half.”
Alexander-Arnold earned a 7/10 from The Standard, who wrote: “Returned to his most familiar position but still ran the game in the first half. Range of passing was stunning, including deep ball that led to opener. One lapse in the second half went unpunished.”
And the Independent concurred with a 7/10, noting: “Selected as a right back, as Carsley intends to do while he is in charge, while tucking into central and midfield positions on occasions. Looked a decent fit – and picked out a brilliant ball to Gordon in the move for the first goal.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold shining for Liverpool and England
Alexander-Arnold had a very tricky summer under Southgate, with the former England boss constantly ignoring the Liverpool man following his midfield tryout.
But the defender has always given his utmost for his country, with his ability on show for all to see when he is given the chance.

That has also been true of life under Arne Slot this season, with the right-back really impressing at both ends of the pitch.
Alexander-Arnold has helped Liverpool keep three successive clean sheets, with Slot handing him well-earned rests towards the end of all three matches.
Another top Three Lions display is certainly on the cards next time out, with England hosting Finland at Wembley on Tuesday.
