Liverpool finally have a concrete plan of who their squad will be for at least the first-half of 2024/25.
As always, it was another crazy summer of transfer rumours in terms of both incomings and outgoings at Anfield.
However, in the end it was a relatively serene first window for Arne Slot. The Reds signed just Federico Chiesa to add the first-team squad right now, while they sold only three players on permanent transfers.
There had remained the possibility to sell more to the Saudi Pro League up until Monday September 2nd, but with that deadline having been and gone, Liverpool kept their group intact.
While that had come to seem inevitable over the past weeks, it had not always been. There had reportedly been big interest from Saudi Arabia in Alisson Becker especially.

What’s going on with Alisson Becker?
After Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool at the end of last season, there had been some suggestions that Alisson may be on the way out, too.
The goalkeeper was very close to Klopp and at one stage it was claimed that Alisson was in negotiations with a Saudi club.
Liverpool targeting and then ultimately signing Giorgi Mamardashvili to the squad for 2025/26 did not help the rumblings either.
Thankfully, Alisson pledged his future to Liverpool towards the end of the transfer window and is clearly going nowhere for the time being.
Despite the reprieve, it seems fairly certain that rumours about Alisson and Saudi Arabia will return next summer, though.

Taking to his Daily Briefing on Friday morning, however, journalist Fabrizio Romano says that for now it is impossible to predict what will happen.
“On the rumours for Alisson, it’s the same as Kovacic, nothing at all,” says Romano. “Mentioning a target today for a club in July 2025 is a guess job, and I’m not into it guys.
“The Saudis have appreciated Alisson for a long time but that’s it,” adds the reporter. “Predicting his future means inventing stuff.”
What is Liverpool’s plan with Giorgi Mamardashvili?
Clearly, after a summer of rumours about Alisson’s future and then Liverpool signing Mamardashvili, there is a legitimate question over who is the Reds long-term No.1.
For now, there is no real problem. Despite Nottingham Forest trying to sign Caoimhin Kelleher late on in the transfer window, the Irishman remains as Alisson’s clear back-up.
With Mamardashvili away with Valencia, the hierarchy is set in stone and will not change.
Next summer, though, it’s a whole different story. It has been claimed that Mamardashvili will return to Liverpool and fight for his place in 2025, but the optics of having a £30m goalkeeper sit on the bench are not great.
The preference amongst the fanbase would surely be for Alisson to continue in their goal as long as he can and wants to. But there’s reason to believe that change is coming next year.
