Three players who could leave Liverpool late in the transfer window after Federico Chiesa’s signature

Liverpool manager Arne Slot made somewhat of a sideways move after agreeing a deal for Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa has agreed to join Liverpool, becoming their second signing of the summer transfer window after Giorgi Mamardashvili.

And that was indeed another sideways move, with Liverpool fans perhaps expecting a new number six or centre-back to be the priority.

At the same time, however, the Anfield faithful will not be complaining, with Slot needing a strong and talented squad to compete on all fronts.

Liverpool have made a strong start to the new season, but injuries and fatigue are certain to come into play once Champions League action gets underway.

Federico Chiesa to be one of seven Liverpool attackers

But keeping the entire squad happy will now be a huge challenge for Slot, particularly when it comes to his attackers.

With Chiesa’s signature imminent, the Reds manager will now have six senior stars to choose from in the final third.

Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have been favoured in the early stages of the new season, with Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo playing reserve roles.

There is even a seventh attacker that could have been thrown into the mix, with Ben Doak having perhaps been able to challenge the senior players for minutes this season.

But with Chiesa’s arrival, the young Scot could be moved on by Slot before Deadline Day, although he isn’t the only one, with the futures of three attackers now up in the air.

Ben Doak

As mentioned, Doak could have upset the star forwards at Anfield by forcing his way into the team, much like he did last season under Jurgen Klopp.

But a serious knee injury ended his season prematurely, and Slot is thinking about selling Doak in a permanent transfer.

Regular minutes do not look likely for the 18-year-old, but perhaps a loan move away from Anfield would be more suitable given his potential.

Luis Diaz

Another winger who may want to consider life away from Merseyside is Diaz, even with his superb start to the new season.

Slot says Diaz will not be sold, but the signature of Chiesa could force the Colombian to seriously consider his options.

He has lit up the new Premier League season, and Liverpool fans would undoubtedly be very sad to see him leave.

Darwin Nunez

Nunez again has a strong relationship with the Anfield faithful, even with the Uruguayan often struggling in front of goal.

He has superb potential, but often lets his side down when it really matters, with Nunez’s offsides a ‘big problem’ at Liverpool.

The forward has struggled for minutes under Slot so far, but he was a late returner to pre-season, while his time on the pitch is certain to move in the right direction once the fixtures arrive thick and fast.
